any plate can be made IMO.

FYI, I got in touch with Doc Kleber about that coupe project. It is a coupe body in gelcoat/primer on a rebuilt, shortened pan. The pan has been gone through, beam and brakes and trans all rebuilt or replaced. It has Empi wide5 discs all around, and comes with steel 5.5 inch wheels and tires. It also has the stainless steel window frames and includes bumpers.
No glass, no interior, no tank, no electrics:harness, fixtures, switches. No carpet, no motor. Don't forget paint. No brackets, no gauges. I'd build it slowly and get parts as I went. Easier on the wallet that way.
But IMHO it's a great deal for someone who wants to REALLY build a car. Get in touch with Chris. It is a ton of work, but a can-do guy could finish it.
Porsche 356 has an 83-inch wheelbase. Miata NA is 89 inches and the latest MX-5 is 90 inches. Of course you can cut things and weld them back together—an activity which I heartily recommend to anyone who wants to have a good day!—but, really?
And also: A standard Speedster body was made for a chassis with a front track of 51 inches and a rear of 49. The current Miata track width is nearly 10 inches wider. The NA was around 56.
You better like flares.
Thanks,
I will try and contact Doc Kleber and get some more information about the Coupe project. I would like to get some pictures and details as to what is done and what needs to be finished. I would like to get a list of what parts are needed to finish the build so I could get a sense of the cost to see if it is worth it. I would also need someone to finish the build it for me. Know anyone?

The length of the Bueno Miata-Speedster (NA based - I thought it was NB) was handled by widening the doors a couple inches. You can see the seem under the door apparently where this was done. Not sure how width was handled - he used a flared wide body CMC mold. To me the wheels (especially the front are set back too far and need spacers to look right.
Not sure what happened to Bueno Designs - he produced other replicas too. Internet says - BUENO DESIGNS, INC. has been set up 5/12/2014 in state FL. The current status of the business is Inactive. The BUENO DESIGNS, INC. principal address is 37140 CHANCEY ROAD, ZEPHYRHILLS, FL, 33541
Not really a viable option.
What was he asking?

“ ....someone to finish the build”. You mean besides the two options mentioned on the first page of this thread? Kevin @coolryde - The Kitman car is in San Diego and so is his Pro shop. @Alan Merklin who has a long history of building quality cars.
Alan is on project 51 or 52 I can't remember that is some experience.
I spoke to him before and just emailed him now. The real question is what would it cost to acquire the project and what would it costs to finish with parts and labor? Is it worth it? Am I saving anything?
Thank you guys for the recommendations but at this juncture # 50 is the last full build. Not saying I won't take on some easy fix project buy my hand arthritis has made it difficult.
A lot of unknowns too with a coupe vs Speedster build - like windows, back seat and headliner. Maybe '70 shag carpet for headliner?
Shame you can't find what happened to Bueno Designs in Zephyrhills, FL. He had some nice replica builds when his site was up. No too far from Miami either.
Order a coupe from Vintage motorcar or Special Edition. While you wait for your turn in que, purchase a nice used speedster and enjoy it while your coupe is built. With the way used speedsters are appreciating you could sell a nice used speedster for what you would pay for it today.......it's a thought ~
If he wants a pre-A bent window coupe(Vintage) or a C coupe(SE) yes. But what if he wants an A coupe? It's either JPS or Kitman.
I just sold the coupe roller that I had for sale.
If anyone is interested in the components ( body, Subchassis, Shortened VW pans)
www.kitmanmotors.com or private message me.
Cheers,
Dr. Chris
