Steve,Steve, Steve:
I have a Vintage on a '69 pan, registered as a 69 VW no mention of salvage anywhere. I don't recall my friend Rick's Vintage Speedster having a salvage title either. Where do you get this stuff?
Salvage Titles can also be because a car was stolen or the damage in an accident deemed it a total when in fact it is really nothing more than insurance company manipulation.
I had an '87 Acura Legend coupe that got sideswiped by an auto transporter. Cosmetic damage along the rear quarter panel on the driver's side. The repair estimate was within 70% of book value and that equalled total. Bummer.
I bought the salvage rights for $750 and received a check for the balance, $5600. I had a guy bondo her up for $200., sprayed it myself, sold it on Yahoo, with proper disclosures for $2000.
I got better than book and the buyer got a good running car for $3000 less than comparable models.
Salvage Titles are not always a bad thing.
It's a mind set. The guy that bought my old 356 twin grille roadster with its salvage title laughed all the way to the bank I'm told. Paid $8K (?) and repaired/restored it and last I saw was asking six figures for it.
It's a mind set I tell ya... where do you think these water-pumping engines & trannys are coming from with SAW?
