Hello,

I'm looking for a slightly used VS, preferably black/tan, silver/black or ivory/tan color combo. 1915cc & 3:88 tranny setup w/ front disc brakes. I'm ready to pull the trigger and buy! ;-)

I found one for sale in Newport Beach but unfortunately the frame/title was a "salvage"

Or should I just order a new one from Kirk???? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

romeo, I think the salvage title is always going to be what you get with a vintage. They use the VW pan so it is technically a salvage. Or do you mean the car was wrecked after building it and then turned to a salvage title? I think someone from California with a Vintage needs to answer this question. I'm just wondering if the car was wrecked or if they did that to make it easier to register in California?
If a kit car has a "salvage" title that simply means the donor pan (presumably a VW in this case) was a salvaged vehicle. Since the only part of the "salvaged vehicle" in the replica is some of the pan, the salvage title is no biggie.

It's pretty unlikely that a Vintage Speedster would have been wrecked bad enough to get a salvage title on its own, and then brought back to saleable condition.
The original owner bought it from Kirk w/ a salvage title. He did not know that he had a choice when he ordered his VS. If I end up ordering one from Kirk, I will make sure that the pan/chassis does not have a salvage title attached to it.

My finance company (JJ Best) will NOT cut the check to VS on a salvage title car.
Steve,Steve, Steve:
I have a Vintage on a '69 pan, registered as a 69 VW no mention of salvage anywhere. I don't recall my friend Rick's Vintage Speedster having a salvage title either. Where do you get this stuff?

Salvage Titles can also be because a car was stolen or the damage in an accident deemed it a total when in fact it is really nothing more than insurance company manipulation.

I had an '87 Acura Legend coupe that got sideswiped by an auto transporter. Cosmetic damage along the rear quarter panel on the driver's side. The repair estimate was within 70% of book value and that equalled total. Bummer.

I bought the salvage rights for $750 and received a check for the balance, $5600. I had a guy bondo her up for $200., sprayed it myself, sold it on Yahoo, with proper disclosures for $2000.

I got better than book and the buyer got a good running car for $3000 less than comparable models.

Salvage Titles are not always a bad thing.
It's a mind set. The guy that bought my old 356 twin grille roadster with its salvage title laughed all the way to the bank I'm told. Paid $8K (?) and repaired/restored it and last I saw was asking six figures for it.

It's a mind set I tell ya... where do you think these water-pumping engines & trannys are coming from with SAW?
