I dunno, Marty, it was a little chilly in the Speedster with the windows off this morning. even with the bright sunshine I left the top up.
I know, I know... I'm an a$$hole.
Marty, I can smell spring, next tuesday we are going to get 5 above C...or 42degreesFah, it will be balmy... Lane, you make me want to more to the US
It's an interesting part of the word that Lane lives in.
Lots of Shrimp boats hauling in lots of shrimp, and that means that there are companies all along the shore in Charleston who make shaved ice to keep the caught shrimp in. Lots of time they have some of it that they just have to toss out - maybe we could get dibs on it.
I say we have "Bruno and the Boys" ("Little Rhody Bruno" from Atwells Ave in Rhode Island, or "Professor Bruno from University Village on Chicago's West Side - doesn't matter...) to pay old Laner a visit and dump, oh....I dunno....a couple or three yards of shaved ice (looks just like snow, trust me) into his open cockpit. The end result would look just like this:
But take heart, Marty.....We're getting' there.
Daytime temps are nudging 35°F and the melting is starting. Pretty soon we're gonna see flowers like this:

My hard top is coming off tomorrow. Spring is here.
Marty:
Henry isn't done with your car yet, is he?
Dreaming is good
I'm not gonna mention the yard work I just finished outside in the sun wearing a T-shirt. Nope, not gonna say a thing.
Lane: You still planning on Whussing out and driving your BMW to Carlisle?
Gordon,
That's no way to talk to a Southern gentleman.
Dunno. It'll depend on my mood and the weather forecasts for the week. If it looks like another 2008 I am unlikely to be in the Speedster.
63 at my house, think Ill go golf today.
You guys stay warm and safe...
We got to 50 or so today (DC area) and rivers are running in the gutters. That said, believe we'll have piles of the stuff, meticulously placed one shovel at a time, all about for quite some time.
And all you lower-latitude guys can just go F-- off in your cars, on the golf course, or where ever.
Lane: Carlisle -- it's a SPEEDSTER week end.
One of the things about the Central Valley that makes it unique is the extremes we can be at within a very short amount of time. Today it is in the mid 70's so I went on a long drive with my wife in the Speedster to her parent's ranch in a neighboring city. Tomorrow I am going snowmobiling in the mountains.

Correction on the photo effect. It is the "Oil Pastel" effect.
Snow snow snow here..
Oh nothing! Just hanging out this weekend in Palm Springs 85 degree weather playing a gig with my brohammies!

Last Saturday night my wife and I went out with friends to a local brewery/restaurant and listened to what had to be one of the best local cover bands I've heard in a while. Totally got me jamming on some classic rock bands/songs I hadn't heard in a while. I just satisfied my fix and downloaded another 30+ songs onto the iPod.
I'm jealous, Jim. It only got to 71 here yesterday. We have to wait until tomorrow to hit 80. Woe is us.
Good news is it's 45F here this morning....bad news is that's about the average temp here till May. I'll take it and wear a sweater. What choice do I have?
Move south. Charleston has a thriving art community.
Sweaters are better than trudging around in snow mobile suits.
42°F Under the deck at 11AM and stuff's melting. I can see the outline of the in-ground pool again - not a lot, but at least you know it's there.
If it keeps up like this I'll be back out in the shop working on the Speedster seats and getting ready for that first Spring ride. AND, I'm already doing my Spring maintenance on my bikes (although it's gonna be a while before the mountain bike gets out).
Won't be long now........
'Course, Lane, our Southern Gentleman, has been riding around all winter, except for those 'frigid' days under 50°F or so down there. But then, he has thin, southern blood or something, so we have to make allowances.
He has to take advantage of every nice day he can, now, because after Carlisle has come and gone the temps in Charleston will swing rapidly up over 90°F for the entire Summer until mid September and all we'll hear is "Geez! I can't take the car out.....It's way TOO HOT!"
To which all of us in the nicer, more temperate summer climes will say; "Whaa, Whaa, Whaaaaaaa................."
"Bless Yo' Haht, Lane"
The summer heat doesn't keep me off the bike nor does it keep the car in the garage. I just don't enjoy it as much and whine a lot.
BTW, I got in a nice 16.5 mile ride in at lunch today. It's beautiful out and if the rain holds off I might get a couple more in this week. Between work and rain I haven't ridden near as much this winter as our crusty New Englander is letting on.
" ... and whine a lot."
Oh really?? I hadn't noticed . . . .
Marty!
For the first time since early January, I went out and did some work in my un-heated shop and was comfortable!!!!!!
I've been out there working on stuff in the past two months (mostly fixing/adjusting the snow blower) but had been far from comfortable with no heat, especially those days below zero. Today was pretty decent.
Got all of my tools and the bench picked up and put away and looking forward to getting those seats finally in for good. Then it's on to the usual Spring maintenance before the local "dust off" run in mid-April.
I've also gotten most of the 3" of solid ice off of my rear walkway - it's been shadowed by the tall snow walls on both sides of the walk and hasn't been melting for beans. Took a lot of chipping to get through it, but now THAT's done.
Spring is, indeed, getting here.
Still gonna be a while before we see Daffodils, but we know they're down there......
Good to hear. For the first time I went out side without a winter coat on (just a sweater). Who would of thought that something so simple would be so liberating.
Spring is in the air!
Fifty. Nine. Degrees.
Bam.
Temps into the mid 70s today and tomorrow..... No sun and high chance of RAIN.....
Rain tonight for us Leon. But the melt is serious now. All snow off my roof except the North side. Muddy out there, and it's gonna be worse. But hopefully no drought!
Near 80 here today with a slight chance of rain. Similar tomorrow. In the 60s for the rest of the week with rain likely. Saw my first no-see-ums (irony intentional) this morning. That's the bad part of spring here.
Icicles are melting up here, but still a foot or two of snow on the ground. However, on a few slopes the grass is showing, and I was outside this morning without long underwear and an arctic parka...
Bright sun and clear skies yesterday and today. Back out in the garage to work , but I had to open the door. It's 48 outside and 34 in the garage.
Sort of funny when you have to open the door to let cold air in to warm up your garage.
No big deal in New England.
Happens all the time.
I know , it sounds strange, but the garage is full dimension post and beam and holds the heat and cold pretty well for an uninsulated building. If I ever get the time and money.....
