Thought some of you may be interested in this. This Mod. makes it a lot easier to remove and install the idle jets on 44 IDF carbs when you're calibrating them or just cleaning debris out of them occasionally. Additionally they are now magnetic due to the piece of steel Allen Wrench in them.

Photo 1  You need to buy 8 of these jet holders.

Photo 2  Buy 4 Allen Wrenches. Size: 4mm or 5/32". Cut off a piece 1.250" long or 1.170" long if you use "space saver" manifolds like I do.

Photo 3  Cut the threaded part off of 4 of the idle jet holders as shown on two in this pic.

Photo 4  Tin the ends with hard solder or mild silver solder then solder one of each jet holders onto the ends.

Photo 5  This shows the new jet holders with "O" rings and idle jets installed and ready to go back into your carbs using an 8mm combo wrench

Photo 6 The installed holder, easily accessible now with an 8mm wrench and retrievable with a magnet if you drop it.

Cool mod, but wouldn't you be better off just soldering a short allen key into one of the hex holders? I find I don't want to use more torque putting them in than I can apply with my fingers and the allen key.

If you really want to mod the holders, you then wouldn't need any tools at all to pull the jets.

But you need to consider the other advantages of just using the hex holders the way they are, or even using the stock holders with a shorty screwdriver.

Ten minutes of the 'blind mechanic, crouching' position (two and a half minutes per jet) thoroughly clears my mind and replenishes my chi. It prepares me for deep insight into the Weber world. Few things in the Speedster are more calming.

I think you guys are really Great ! Thank You !

Stan...You must be using Fuel injection or Delortos ! There's no problem like this with them!

Danny P.....Thanks ! and No, I can now remove the idle jets without removing the air cleaners. Also, i had to chuckle a little about your statement (because it's true) "Either you can see em' or you can't get to em"... I like to think that my solution resolves this quite a bit....

Sacto Mitch....I hadn't really thought through your suggestion to just silver solder a whole Allen wrench into the jet holder. This would save about $ 40.00 dollars and make the operation "tool-less"....GOOD Idea !! However, if you have "Space Saver' Manifolds, like I do, it wouldn't work because of clearance problems with the fan shroud.

How about "Crouching Mechanic".. N .. Hidden Jet ?...........Bruce
