Have my mate looking at the engine that came with my Speedster.....

Have to say it looked a little ratty when I first looked.

He took it apart yesterday and......looks like someone carefully rebuilt the engine, then never ran it......does not even have any oil in, heads/valves/springs/rings all brand new. Cylinders nicely honed and cross hatched and a new clutch and throwout.

Pushrod tubes rusty externally, I'll replace them.

On the pan, I've cleaned everything up, repainted and seamsealed all of the joints, 2 tiny bits of rust that I cut out and replaced... Pulling the beam off to paint it properly, then I'll fit my new disk brake kit.

Got a list of bits to buy, including alternator kit and probably a new 34 pict 3 carb, (or rebuild ?). Keeping it nice and simple, gonna sell the twin carb setup that it came with....

Have a set of 914 gauges on their way from Texas and will sell the original Vintage set...

All in all, good result :)

Gerry,

Brand new push rod tubes can come rusty, and they do not take long to get that way once installed. Just surface rust, and not a big deal, I do not think, wrt operation. Maybe someone makes ones that do not rust - I dunno. Maybe they can be powder coated? some folks here that have tried to make spotless engines may know a trick or two here.

And we live and breath on the pictures, mate.
