It's not even the New Year yet (and I'm not sure I can attend either), but is there any interest from the PNW (BC, Seattle, Portland)in putting together a loose-knit caravan to Knott's? I realize that driving that time of year up here is dicey at best, but if luck managed a window of opportunity would there be those willing to take advantage of traveling in numbers?
I'm looking for all who can hook into I-40 west of the Big Muddy. Do the Route 66 thing. My Speedster leaves OKC at dawn on the 21st (maybe 22d). Will RON Flagstaff, then El Lay early. Come on you Arkies, Texicans, Jayhawks, Show Me's, New Mexers, Coloradoites. AZites, join in!

Jim

Also looking for maybe a rental (like some biz/exec suites) with garage... near show
Scott,

I am definatly driving my Speedster down there. I live just north of Medford. I am thinking that leaving on the 21st will allow me a days
cushion in case the weather on the 22nd is rainy. I don't think we have to worry about snow that late in the year but driving in the rain ain't my cup of tea in a tub. I am thinking about staying overnight down a little south Of Sacramento so the next day would get me into La La land before the evening rush hour. Dale Bates mentioned he would be leaving from that General area on Thursday also. I guess
as we close to zero hour we should all keep in touch and yes, it would be nice to have comfort in numbers. This will the first long jaunt for my car, not worried, just excited about it!

I think this is really going to be a great event, John Leader and myself are getting lots of positive feedback already. We will have a hotel set up by early February. Will keep you all posted as things get set up.

Bruce
I'm pretty sure I will be able to get down to Knotts. Whether I have my car done by then or not is another story. At the moment I'm planning on flying down with the family. If by chance I have the car done by then I might trailer it down, so those in the PNW group keep me in the loop as I might be interested in a caravan.
Dick,

I am flying down to LA the end of this month and John Leader and myself are going to select a "meet" hotel, hopefully with some kind of a break on rates if we can present some good numbers to the hotel.
So if you are planning on attending and staying overnight, then make sure you let us know how many nights and rooms you'll be needing. The more we have the better chance we have of swinging some discounts!
I'll make another questionaire on this thread in a couple of weeks so any of you who haven't decided yet have a second shot at it.

Actually this goes not only for rooms but the number of cars being shown and the number making the Saturday night dinner/party. Now that is going to be a can't miss deal. We'd like to know how many cars will be in our group so we'll be sure and have enough reserved spaces for our Speedsters and Spyders. You wouldn't want to park with a bunch of Cobra's would you?

Bruce
Bruce, I would like to offer to make arrangements for the PNW contingent to stay here in Portland on the way through if there was a desire to do so. It's likely I can get a very nice group rate and with protected parking. Please keep it in mind as time draws near. It would be a good mid-point for those coming from BC and a quick sprint to Rogue River and points south the next day.
Scott,

Great Idea for us moss backs! I'm south of Portland about 275, near Rouge River. I'm thinking about leaving on Wendsday and make it down to the Sacramento area and then leave there on Thursday Morning to put me in LA early afternoon, avoid the evening rush if possible.

It is really snowing hard here today, first time I've seen it like this. Passes on I-5 North and South of us are closed due to weather.

As we get close to "RR" day we sure can pick up the chatter about caravans or convoys, That would be a lot of fun!

Ladies and Gentlemen...the West Coast Replica Rendezvous at Knotts in April is now officially an INTERNATIONAL EVENT! At least two of our Canadian bretheren are making the trek from Beautiful British Columbia to be with us in Southern California. Henry Reisner of Intermeccanica will be there (no doubt with a few great IMs - including Dale Bates's). And Rick Davis from Chilliwack, BC checked in yesterday, saying he'll be there, too. He mentioned something about Molsen's for everybody (I'm joking).
Anyway, this event promises to be bigger and better than any of us imagined. So, if you're going to be there - let me know.
So...in my boredom this morning I put a red flag on a MS Trips and Streets map for each person that is listed on the West Coast Rendevous roster as of Jan. 3. I also noted a name and make for each flag but that was too detailed to show. I noticed that not everyone listed is registered. I am haveing fun with this already! And John, I think that "Rendevous" is great!
Way cool, Dale, I think I'm the flag second or third in from the very left coast! I am chasing the bats out of the second story of my house and have done laundry for the third time in as many months, I think Casa de WideRidezzz will be open in time for weary travelers en route tour les Replica Rendevouzzz...now if I could just get both bathrooms up and running (literally) at the same time...hmmmm?
Gnarly indeed, Dale! Bruce Williams and I were going to have a big map at the show with everyone's origination point marked. Now, we can watch it "fill in" as we "fill up" with attendees.
John Steele and I had a good discussion on the logistics of the show today. We're going to have plentiful parking in the Replica Corral for all cars on scene. Those Cobra guys are going to be dumbfounded (insert your own smart remark here).
Thanks again, Dale!
To all left coast Replica Rendezvou attendees.

I have the map and quickee dots already purchased for placement. Lets fill that sucker up with those quickee dots! As you reister with us you can place your own sticker, hope you guys all know where you live. Those of you that fly in will be allowed to place their dot on the map, we'll figure something out so we can tell you came in a brand X!
Are we starting some traditions here or what?

Vince, bring that Speedy up to the AZ border on your pre-dawn run, watch for a black VS passing the 1500 mile mark from OKC, slide into my 12 oclock and lead away. ;0) You'll ID it as an Okie VS easily, I'll have a rocking chair tied onto the luggage rack, blue tin camping cookware tied to hang outside the car, a roadkilled armadillo still half hung on my right bumper guard, a change of boxers flying to dry on a bamboo catfishin' pole, red dust all over the windshield and my face except I'll have blue lips from sipping grape cool-aid and pure grain, one small duffle, and five cases of Shiner Bock loaeded in the passenger seat, Instant fold orange tent will be half instant unfolded and flapping out the back bench area, a map to the Star's homes taped to the right side of the windshield to give more shade, I'll be sportin' a Willie Nelson T with matching eyes, and a bucket between my knees to cut down on the pit stops. That'll be me. Yeeehaw, Cali-forni-eye here I come!
Jim,

Change your name to Joad and have the family riding in back eating goobers and that would be a good movie story line, whoops, guess that has been done already. Anyway, funny post Jim. How far do you think it is from OKC to Knotts?

Nothing is sacred with this group and that's the way it should be!

OKC Jim,
Knotts wraps up around 3:00 PM on Sunday, but Saturday is really THE day anyway. On Sunday morning the Knotts people give out the awards, but the show is pretty much over by lunchtime.
It's your call, but if you wanted to put in a half-day on the road headed East on Sunday, you certainly could. Bruce and I will arrange to ship all your trophies to you in OKC.
Lookin' forward to it... JL
