thanks Dale I think that is most likely the case too. I had a repro banjo style wheel around with an adapter and tried mounting it and it actually would work with slight mods but it doesn't look ideal because the way the adapter is angled by starting small and getting larger rather than starting large and tapering in where it meets the wheel. It works by providing the gap needed to take up space between the wheel and the dash but really isn't ideal. here are a few pics

I may be mistaken but I think Henry used the end of my original splined shaft and cut the bottom off. Using the top splined portion, he then welded it to a late model shaft with the compression/collapsable section so I now have a collapsable shaft incase of an accident. For what ever it is worth.
