Here is a chance for you to suggest a color for a new Speedster project I just got. I have done the Silver route before (my old IM). I have seen red, black, blue, white, silver,...

I was thinking of a dark Merlot or Brandy/Burgundy.

Was there ever a 356 color option like that?

Where do I find old 356 colors? and paint codes.

Patrick,
Are you going to be a slave to authenticity with your new project or let your hair down a bit? Just curious...

Most colors of the day were solid, opague and rich. No eleventy-seven clear coats creating a tribute to decopauge, no metallics or or 'ode-to-bowling-ball' flakes.

I think if you select a nice burgundy or an interesting brandy color (I picture a dark caramel when you say brandy?) you'll have the purists scratching their heads and leafing through their color catalogues.

I figure no matter whatcha pick, you'll entertain lots of block and color sanding.

Waving from the side of the road in my wavy BLACK (is there any other color for a speedster, really?) V-car,

I will slave day and night until this Fake car looks more authentic than any other on the site. Till it looks more real than a real one. I am now a purist and if it means buying a real Speedster and cutting it up to build my dream fake replicate, so be it.

That, and when I sell it, there is an even better chance that the buyer will be more concerned than me.

Don't want to pick a color that will keep it from selling, but I will be driving it until it goes. Sorry, the car may end up for sale when finished.

There is a Fake almost real authentic Cobra out there with my name on it. So if you see me on the street and a Cobra is coming up on me fast, yell real loud so I don't get hit.
Patrick,

My friends in the old car scene always ask what color the car is when inquiring about a used car. That is usually question #1. If you are looking for a deep red, then the Ruby Red is rather nice, non metallic, but if you really want a deep maroon then get on the Parts Obsolete web site. They have an older coupe under restoration that is painted a deep maroon, believe it is the Pascha Red. I saw the car in person last year and it grows on you. With some bright trim added, I think it would be stunning, and authentic. I believe it was a 51-54 color, or thereabouts. Pre A color for sure. I think sticking with an authenic color is a big plus when it goes to selling a car as you obviously are going to do with this one.

Patrick, you would HAVE to be in order to get into the Renn Kafer game! What are the planned specs for THAT car? I just got the video of the California events from the past few years and those cars are simply INSANE.

Like a lead sledge wrapped in a silk glove!

Luck,

I am leaning heavy on the Merlot or Burgundy color.

The Renn Kafer Cup Series run by Rich Kimball has been a ton of fun. Mostly dominated by the boys in Southern California till recently. A local nor Cal boy has the fastest time to date in the class Rick Dickson with an 11.25 I believe.

I have run it in my Chopped Notch and my 66 sunroof beetle. Last year I was second fastest at the first Sacramento show running a 12.3 and running out of fuel at the top end of the track.

The new Renn car planned is a Strato Blue 56 Rag with a 2332 or bigger. These are show cars with race motors. When the series first started it was with the intention of showing people that these beautiful cars can also go fast and be drivers. The almighty low ET has blurred the lines a little.

We will see how it goes as far as getting the car ready now that I has a Speedster to paint and assemble.
Beautiful color and the perfect year car as well! My buddy has a 56 sunroof European model in Strato Blue, wide whites, etc. It's a killer combination.

Luck with the car. It's a cool racing/show series! I love how the winners depend on the combination of racing AND show points and all.

VERY COOL.

We've done some "non traditinal" colors recently. The ones I liked the most were

Torch (new vette pearl, reddish maroon w/ a touch of orange in the right light)
Merlot (special mix based on BMW merlot pearl)
Aviator (Audi TT dark flat gray)
Nimbus (Audi TT lightflat gray)
Jaguar Racing Green (lighter than BRG, truely a stunning color)

I'll try to get some pics up this weekend

Bruce,

Yes, it is a good address. My website email will bounce sometimes when it is full, and with the volume of emails I get, if I am away for a few days (i.e. before the holidays) it fills up quickly. I need to look into a better webhost and email. Too many limitations with the current one.
Send it again, please. Also, if it ever happens again, you can send mail to specialedition@mchsi.com or beckspeedster356@yahoo.com

Patrick, while I was visiting IM a few years ago Henry had just finished a car, and it was just the colour you're talking about (Merlot). It had tan leather interior and a tan top. It was going to someone in Florida. Very nice looking. Another member on this forum has a very nice dark blue IM, with tan interior. That looks nice too.
