Now that I’m doing a Type 4 I really don’t have to worry about a front bumper to hide the air intake for the radiator. This is an Emory Special 1961 Cabriolet. Mine will be a 1959 convertible D but will look very similar. Mine will have the role bar and a removable black hard top. Love the baseball glove interior color. I think this car looks pretty badass. Don’t know if Carey can do the fake doors for the carbs. But I kind of like them.

Can we get a Hell Yeah!
Carey can probably do anything you want. Making the gills functional for more air flow might be a good thing.
I agree with Carlos. And make the roll bar curved to match the top of the windshield.
Agree with Carlos - make the vents more of a scoop like the Boxster.
When I ordered my car, I went with the gills, but I got rid of the fake door lines. My car is fake enough without them.
I wonder what a Speedster engine lid would look like with the grill removed and the whole lid louvered.....

The black one you posted is the same car. I do like the idea of fake doors but functional gills to allow more air flow to the carbs.

Gills are for Spyders. Since 1956...
I do like lots on the interior of the Emory car (color interior, seat material, steering wheel) but not that particular ugly roll bar. Nice looking coupe behind it too.
Gills, shmills. Nobody has mentioned how nice the enlarged rear wheel arches look.
Yes that's an Emory Special. All of these cars have special body changes that make them unique. No 2 Specials are the same. And all of them come with the 2.4 or 2.6L chopped 911 4 cylinder engines. If I had more money than I could spend I would definitely have an Emory Outlaw. But hey we have some very nice options. I'll have to stick with a conventional 356A body for my Conv D. But I love getting inspiration from the Emory cars. I know Lane did. His car is very Outlawish. My car will likely take cues from a few different Emory cars. But this black one pushes most of the right buttons.

Unfortunately, the gills on the Emory car are nowhere near the carbs. I’m a big fan of “form follows function.” Dumbass styling cues for no good reason are… dumbassed.
How do you like these vents

But do the gills provide air to the engine compartment? Kind of hard to tell. I think probably not. A picture on the Emory site demonstrates access to some type of hydraulics. Maybe brakes. But you can also see the top of the rear tire. So no they probably don’t connect with engine compartment. And I would agree with no function I would skip them.
Would this be a place to mount an oil cooler. That would give them functionality.
@550 Phil Yes they do provide air right into engine compartment
Nice cool air to carbs!
Love that steering wheel - where can I get one?
I think it’s a Moto Lita. British wheel. I have that wheel waiting for the car.
yes, Moto Lita. Recently sold one I had waiting for a car.

And yet, you seem to like all manner of dubiously ugly Italian cars...
Beauty is and always will be in the eye of the beer-holder.
Happy New Year, my Spyder-owning brother!

1954, actually.
Phil, don't do it on the Roadster. They're the only mistake on that Emory car. Don't look natural and they're in the wrong place to function as "carb doors."
years ago Molita wheel for 65 Tiger, choose wheel dia, type wood, finish, concave/flat/convex, etc.. excellent British quality,, was $350 back then ,,had it in 3-4 weeks from England,,couldnt be happier..
Emory is à Louvre Guy he knows how to make them and seems to add them everywhere as compartments for storage or for real.
They are kind of cool but less is more in my mind.

and the one on the Emory car had the Cobra spokes not the thin slots.
Aha. looked familiar. Completely forgot!
Phil, I really like the colour of this car and it has no lower open front vents like a B or C body which to me removes from the smooth front lines. Also this car has no chrome on the windshield surround which for me I would not do, due to the amount of stone chips you could get in that A pillar area. Just saying.

BTW, Moto-lita can be ordered with a variety of rivets but recently they offer no rivets.
Ray. That is John Oates' car (Hall & Oates). Emory will not share the color code. But I think Carey figured it out. I may do this color. But I'm thinking maybe a black hard top. However, a black car with that baseball glove color interior would look great.
I am sure Carey can figure out the colour but it is a great template for you to get ideas from. Enjoy the journey.
BTW I had an IM that was a brown & red depending on the light and black most times when it was waxed it was quite a nice colour.
Here is the link from the IM site, I was the second owner

@550 Phil I am sure you said it on another thread but why are you going with the convertible D
Roll-up windows is his reason I think. Sealing the weather out is important.
“Real Men don’t need Windows”
But they sure are nice!
