When I got my vintage speedster, it had a arbarth style 4 pea shooter exhaust, however due to what was thought to be restrictions in exhaust gases the engine didn't run right due to the exhaust I opted to change for a sidewinder type, and although this solved the exhaust restrictions and the engine now runs well, I am not keen on the look of the new exhaust as it sits too low, I didn't think you would see as much from the rear, and I really what the stock look. The engine is a 1641 type 1, and my question is can you use a stock type 1 exhaust or preferably a stainless version without having to modify the body/bumpers?

Hi Matt, Initially had same issues with hanging too low. Raised the last turn of the pipe before it vents thru the center. Now the tip is approximately 3/4 of an inch below the rear bumper. Also shortened the tip about 3 inches. Some of the guys on this site schooled me on what is possible and what is not. How high or low the entire header sits is solely determined by how low the engine is to the ground. Pretty simple I guess.
Take a look at the site that Ron posted above. I have that Vintage Speedster muffler and it dynoe'd on my type IV better than the CSP Python, plus I like the classic twin tail pipes. It is a stainless steel unit with great looking welds and high quality stainless tailpipes.

What I DIDN'T like was that two baffles came loose and make a hell of a noise---like a bunch of coat hangers inside there rattling around. One let go at Morro Bay and another one at Carlisle.

Jake contacted the mfg and they are going to replace the muffler plus when I followed up with them, they agreed to add 1 1/2" length to the tail pipes because the first ones don't take the exhaust all the way out and I was getting some staining on my paint above where the pipes ended. No extra charge either. Not only is this a fine muffler without the miles of tubing and the good looks of twin pipes, the mfg stands behind their product ---they are even paying for the shipping. Nice service in this day & age. I recommend that anyone looking at mufflers consider this unit.
