Billet gets used in pretty broad terms, but basically it is when you machine the part out of a solid piece of metal. As opposed to casting the part.

It has a real application in the racing world, drilling or cutting out extra weight for more speed, but the word's also commonly used these days to describe the hugely popular after-market grills that you see on so many cars and pickups. They have that machined-out, cheese-grater look.

Thomas, my wheels are billet aluminum. They riveted two pieces of milled, dished stock together for strength and then polished them up. I like the idea that it would really take a lot of work to bend them out of round.
