Colin, as you probably know, it's worth what someone is willing to pay, the seller will always try to get the max, since we know a little more than the general public, First thing is, 27K is a lot of money for a "used" tub that is not an IM. Especially if it's your first one, and maybe not the right car for her to begin with, just because she likes it, OK lets assume she loves these tubs and plans on keeping it forever, If I assume your friend (got any pic's?) lives in the L.A. area, as you do, there are many used tubs to choose from..
Are you sure it's the right thing to do to put out 27K for a "used" tub even with a new motor. AND, if only 1800 miles, why the "New" motor...1600 is "entry" level size wise and I'm looking at a single carb set-up which is minimal power, I honestly don't see 27K here...17-20K maybe....
I'd be on the low end of Vinny's value estimate. No real bells and whistles as Lane said, but it is a nice car, and a Beck.

I'd sit down with her and go through a few dozen pictures of cars on the site. Let her see some of the variations on the theme before plunking down $27 large or anything close to that amount.

Hope she finds what she wants, but she might want to make certain she knows what that is.
i can post pictures of myself. thanks though, colin.

thanks for all of the insight, everyone. i have been a member of this forum forever but i haven't posted anything in a long time. i love these cars and i have been thinking of getting one on and off for about four years now.

this particular car has an oregon registration and the owner is planning to register it in california sometime in the next week or so. i am interested to see what experience he has with the registration process. he is not firm on that price. it's a really pretty car but after talking to colin and reading what you guys have to say i do agree that 27k is too much.

i am waiting to hear back from the person who is selling this car http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2997122884.html and any feedback would be appreciated.

the reason i am not looking into having my own built is basically because i am being impulsive and don't want to wait. the weather is pretty fantastic right now and after this summer i am going to be getting very busy. i'd like to make the most of my remaining free time.

i am not finding a ton of speedsters for sale in my area. if someone knows of any others worth looking at i would love to see them. =)

linked below are another picture of the car i saw today (i like this one especially because i can definitely shove one of my girlfriends into the little courtesy back seat and make it a group trip) and a picture of me just so that everyone knows that it's true that colin sometimes has girls in his speedster.

i did see tom's for sale post. i actually ended up back on this site tonight to check the classifieds. i knew colin had posted on a forum to ask people about the beck i saw yesterday but i didn't realize that it was going to be this forum. i saw his post by chance so i am sure he will be surprised to see my follow up. looking forward to seeing picture's of tom's car when he posts them.
oh, will, you are in california too? is your car california registered? is your car BLUE? i am really fond of the little porsches in blue. =)

everyone, i am going to got to VS today and meet kirk and tentatively spec out a car in case i don't find a gently used one to buy. plus he told me that they have a few of them there waiting to be shipped and i want to go drool on them.
this is me:

and this is me in colin's speedster. http://s3.amazonaws.com/crusheeproduction/images/original/12170.jpg?1335675003

he does always have pretty girls in the speedster. i plan to outdo him, though. =)

those links should work. i will report back after i go see kirk. deciding on a color is going to be soooo hard for me. i don't like red but beyond that i get excited about all of the colors. (women..)

"he does always have pretty girls in the speedster. i plan to outdo him, though".. Can I assume you also attract pretty girls? Can't wait to meet you on one of our runs....
Kirk will not steer you wrong, and when you pick up your new tub, you shouldn't have any problems. If you do, there are many of us here in So. Cal. that are more than willing to help...
Vinny, i happen to be in the business of pretty girls. ;) there's already a battle happening online over who will be the first of said pretty girls to have a photo shoot with my speedster. colin probably has a host of pictures of his girlfriend in his speedster and she is also very pretty.

kirk was great and i am in a complete panic over exterior and interior color combinations now. the more i looked at vinyl samples the more confused i felt.

i am taking the more powerful motor, an upgraded transmission, air conditioning in case i get stuck in a traffic jam in summer, a banjo steering wheel, cd player thing and a kill switch... and then after that i have no idea. i like jade green met, adria blue, and black.
