Trying to help a friend buy one and she likes this. What's a fair price for this one? Thanks in advance.

That's a beauty. With just 1,800 miles on it, it's really a new car so go to Beck's site and price out what a new one would be similiarly equipped.
Truly a pretty car. Your friend can't go wrong with a Beck.

Good deal
Low miles are a plus, but that is a VERY basic car, and the single carb isn't helping. I think the price is optimistic by a few thousand.
Colin, as you probably know, it's worth what someone is willing to pay, the seller will always try to get the max, since we know a little more than the general public, First thing is, 27K is a lot of money for a "used" tub that is not an IM. Especially if it's your first one, and maybe not the right car for her to begin with, just because she likes it, OK lets assume she loves these tubs and plans on keeping it forever, If I assume your friend (got any pic's?) lives in the L.A. area, as you do, there are many used tubs to choose from..
Are you sure it's the right thing to do to put out 27K for a "used" tub even with a new motor. AND, if only 1800 miles, why the "New" motor...1600 is "entry" level size wise and I'm looking at a single carb set-up which is minimal power, I honestly don't see 27K here...17-20K maybe....

$22k gets you a brand new VS built to order with a 1600, and a warranty, in the colors you want. That is a nice car though, and if it has CA registration may be worth a low-ball offer around $20k.
I'd be on the low end of Vinny's value estimate. No real bells and whistles as Lane said, but it is a nice car, and a Beck.
I'd sit down with her and go through a few dozen pictures of cars on the site. Let her see some of the variations on the theme before plunking down $27 large or anything close to that amount.
Hope she finds what she wants, but she might want to make certain she knows what that is.

Thanks guys. This is what I told her but thought I'd check with the experts in case I was wrong.
Vinny - She's cute enough to have been in my car so you already know she's at least 7/10. I'll try and find some pics for you. Or maybe just make a new topic. "Pics of girls in my Speedster". Y/N?

ColinColinColin....YesYesYes....
i can post pictures of myself. thanks though, colin.
thanks for all of the insight, everyone. i have been a member of this forum forever but i haven't posted anything in a long time. i love these cars and i have been thinking of getting one on and off for about four years now.
this particular car has an oregon registration and the owner is planning to register it in california sometime in the next week or so. i am interested to see what experience he has with the registration process. he is not firm on that price. it's a really pretty car but after talking to colin and reading what you guys have to say i do agree that 27k is too much.
i am waiting to hear back from the person who is selling this car http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2997122884.html and any feedback would be appreciated.
the reason i am not looking into having my own built is basically because i am being impulsive and don't want to wait. the weather is pretty fantastic right now and after this summer i am going to be getting very busy. i'd like to make the most of my remaining free time.
i am not finding a ton of speedsters for sale in my area. if someone knows of any others worth looking at i would love to see them. =)
linked below are another picture of the car i saw today (i like this one especially because i can definitely shove one of my girlfriends into the little courtesy back seat and make it a group trip) and a picture of me just so that everyone knows that it's true that colin sometimes has girls in his speedster.

I too was compulsive, Annaliese, take your time, there's plenty of great Speedsters out there and since you've been on here for 4 years or so, you should know that. For instance, Tom Dewalt here has a much better sorted Beck for less.
i am sort of hesitant to getting a beck in general now because of what i understand are going to be headaches in having it registered in california. :(
ideally i will have a speedster sometime between tomorrow and mid june. :)
thanks again for all of your insight and to colin for making this post.

i did see tom's for sale post. i actually ended up back on this site tonight to check the classifieds. i knew colin had posted on a forum to ask people about the beck i saw yesterday but i didn't realize that it was going to be this forum. i saw his post by chance so i am sure he will be surprised to see my follow up. looking forward to seeing picture's of tom's car when he posts them.
Annaliese:
Again, good luck in your search. There's a Speedy in your future!

its SO much easier to buy a car that is already registered in CA>
Annaliese: Just an FYI. Kirk and Vintage can have one made to YOUR specs in 3-4 weeks AND it will be CA. registered.
Annaliese.
Look closely at that car in Corona, it has some very funky mirrors on it. I'd be very careful about that car, especially at that price. I would go for the black Vintage Speedster in Oklahoma that was advertised on here and is now listed on eBay for $18,500.

Annaleise, buy my IM Roadster with a 2110 engine for $28,000, it is nicer than any of thses cars!
So, do the pics work for everyone else?
will, can i see a picture of your car? (mostly for fun. i would love an IM car but the more i think about it the more i think that, since i live in california, i should be looking for a car on a VW pan.)
allan, copy and paste those links into your browser and they should load pictures.
doug, i had no idea the turn around time was only 3-4 weeks. i think i will give them a call today. i thought that was a waiting time of many months.
troy, the one in oklahoma has over 30,000 miles on it. and it's in oklahoma. seems like a lot of miles, perhaps? for that price?
if i were to have one made by VS what kind of things can i expect from the break-in period/process?
oh, will, you are in california too? is your car california registered? is your car BLUE? i am really fond of the little porsches in blue. =)
everyone, i am going to got to VS today and meet kirk and tentatively spec out a car in case i don't find a gently used one to buy. plus he told me that they have a few of them there waiting to be shipped and i want to go drool on them.

Have fun at Vintage!

annaliese nielsen...Could'nt open the links you provided, but in a nutshell, Kirk is your answer, he has everything you could ask for and in the color selection of your choice....
this is me:

and this is me in colin's speedster. http://s3.amazonaws.com/crusheeproduction/images/original/12170.jpg?1335675003
he does always have pretty girls in the speedster. i plan to outdo him, though. =)
those links should work. i will report back after i go see kirk. deciding on a color is going to be soooo hard for me. i don't like red but beyond that i get excited about all of the colors. (women..)

The first linked car, the one described as being in or from Ashland, OR has been advertized for several months in various city craiglists. I'd watch out for a scam - anyone can duplicate ads and ask you to send them money, happens all the time.
I met the owner of that car and rode in it yesterday. Not wiring anyone any money.
I just left Vintage Speedsters. Kirk was very nice and helpful and now I am thinking deep thoughts about colors.

"he does always have pretty girls in the speedster. i plan to outdo him, though".. Can I assume you also attract pretty girls? Can't wait to meet you on one of our runs....
Kirk will not steer you wrong, and when you pick up your new tub, you shouldn't have any problems. If you do, there are many of us here in So. Cal. that are more than willing to help...

Vinny, i happen to be in the business of pretty girls. ;) there's already a battle happening online over who will be the first of said pretty girls to have a photo shoot with my speedster. colin probably has a host of pictures of his girlfriend in his speedster and she is also very pretty.
kirk was great and i am in a complete panic over exterior and interior color combinations now. the more i looked at vinyl samples the more confused i felt.
i am taking the more powerful motor, an upgraded transmission, air conditioning in case i get stuck in a traffic jam in summer, a banjo steering wheel, cd player thing and a kill switch... and then after that i have no idea. i like jade green met, adria blue, and black.

Air conditioning...you must really be hot, I'm sure those pic's don't tell the whole story, like I said, can't wait to meet you..
I also noticed the ink...
Don't let any of these Bozo's try to tell you what color to pick, follow your heart...

i won't regret keeping it really classic and choosing ivory, right? or moca.
i have looked at probably 1000 speedster pictures in the last hour and i can't come to any conclusions about the colors. kirk had a few really pretty black ones waiting to be shipped or finished but he said they are dusty looking always in LA.
i am fun and i would love to have a tiny porsche adventure with you guys =)

I'd spend the few bucks needed to add an oil cooler, especially if you expect to get stuck in hot traffic. It is a worthwhile investment on a new build IMO.
i took my roommate/life partner in crime, jenna, with me to VS and she saw a turnkey with ac vents and after that there was no way i could get one without ac. i can't have her melting while i drag her up and down pch over and over again.
i think i read on the vs spec list that the oil cooler is required for a built with ac. i could be making this up though as i was pretty distracted by the vinyl samples.
