I've found that the comfort seats like Badspd has are comfortable for multi-day drives and I recall seeing posts that mentioned 914 seats as a decent alternative.

I am curious about the original speedster seats, though, and if your speedster buckets are tan I might be interested taking them off your hands if the price is right.  You can contact me via the dialog button.

The seats I have look like the "comfort " seats in the posted pics, the covers are different but the same basic style. I would really like something that is adjustable (recline). If we do find something the seats we have will be sold. Not sure how to post the pictures of what we have but the e bay posting for the car is here if it can still be viewed.

Not sure what they are worth but they are as close to new as you can get. Obviously I could not sell them until we have a replacement.

Thanks for the replies,

Jim

Not sure on the seats that you have.  Think those are CMC seats and I have never sat in a CMC car.  I drove my car from Fullerton to Reno in a day and the seats were fine.  The prior owner had put washersunder the front screw to lean the seats back.  I switched mine the "speedster" style.  Not as comfortable, but gives my 6'1" body a little more room.

Yes indeed---Porsche 914 seats are teriffic but you don't need the entire business --just the seat cushions.  I scored a set of these and hav an upholstry guy switch the seat covers from my VS seat cushions to the 914 ones---man, what a difference in comfort!  We do 400-500 mile days sometimes with no complaints from my backside.

I found a set of 914 seats--the whole magilla, frames and all but immediately realized that all I needed was the 914 seat bottoms.  I gave the rest away to an SOC friend.  Made an enormous difference in comfort plus being thicker, the 914 seat bottoms raise my rear end enough so that the fiberglass VS seat bucket  sides don't cut into my butt like the original ones did.

This was a great improvement with no hassle about installation. They fit into the seat buckets like they were made for each other.

Really looking for sometning that reclines, there is a widebody on e bay with the pro car ralley 1000 seats in it and they don't look too bad, is the widebody also wider in the interior, or is the interior the same width as a standard speedster ? These are the type of seats we are looking for.

Sorry for having to post the link but it won't let me post a pic from the link.

The widebodies are built on the same pan, so no, they are not wider. If the linked car has seats like you want, then they will fit- that's a pan-based car.

FWIW, the "comfort" seats in Vintage/JPS speedsters that everybody keeps recommending are anything but comfortable. The standard "speedster-style" buckets with the holes in the back are much better to me.

The bottom line is: you have to be comfortable in your car, or you won't drive it. I ended up paying a LOT for a set of Fibersteel speedster buckets (he's got them in 3 widths) with injection molded foam pads. I'm 100% comfortable and have the look I want, but have more in seats than some guys do in engines. It was worth it to me, as I can drive the car for long distances with minimal comfort issues.

Like I said I am not sure if what we have are considered the comfort seats or not, but whatever you call them they don't work for me. I will look into the Scat seats, I believe TMI make covers for them and the material that was used in the interior was from them so we should be able to get a good match.

Thanks for the replies guys, by the way we took the car to a VW show Sunday and the car took first in it's class, they ended up putting it in with the specialty and air cooled class and the car was on the news coverage for the show.
