Your trailing question has been addressed over and over again throughout these forums.

If you're thinking of buying it, who is selling it? If you're worried about paying too much as so many people do, who is selling it has a dramatic impact on asking price...many Vintage resellers are way out of line when it comes to price and 'features' (often no more than what's to be expected in today's VW Type 1 arena)

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Oh, sorry... if you listen to some of the east coast guys they'll tell you you should never have to pay more than $8k-15K for a speedster.

If you look on eBay (lots of them there) the Vintage Speedsters go light or don't make reserve. The resellers try and get $26-27K for low mileage models.

Vintage is the entry level speedster and the description you included doesn't outline anything extraordinary. If you want it buy and drive it then don't worry about what others think you paid for it. These vehicles are not investment vehicles they are limited interest, limited application cars that look old.

I don't mean to sound sour grapes, but I've got a truly over-built, over-equipped, narrow interest, Vintage myself and I love it, will never get all my money out of it and was the poster boy for how not to buy a replica!
Paul is correct.

There's nothing at all special about that car based on the description. Judging by the copy writing, the seller is really pumping up a run of the mill Speedster to seem like much more than it is.

Too much salesmanship to trust him.

But, we're kinda cautious and very thrifty here on the East Coast.
You say it's built by Vintage?
I'll stick my neck out and say it's not a real Turn-key Vintage Speedster.
With a built Motor with Webers, Custom Exhaust, Center Console, and Roll Bar: these are all non-standard items for a Vintage, and I doubt if they would add them.
The fact that you mention that there are many new and rebuilt components makes no sense: Everything is new if it's a real Vintage Speedster.
Don't spend any money on this car until you determine if it's a real Vintage Speedster.
If the seller has misrepresented the builder, then what else has he misrepresented?
Just for clarification's sake, I should have said nothing extraordinary with regard to the engine. All replicarzzz are special!

As for being a turnkey build that's easy enough to find out and to a lesser degree not as important as who built the engine. Check the pictures under 'scarab' and look at the demise of a turnkey Vintage with a mexi-crate engine with just over a thousand miles on it.

Ouch!
