IRS trailing arms can be narrowed 1-1 1/2" so slightly wider wheels and tires can be used, but the extra width has to be to the inside (backside) of the wheel, and as Stan has pointed out, most disc brake kits  (and type 3 rear drums) add about 1/2" to the track. The rear of the body can be cut apart and widened (I've seen it done and the car didn't look modified) so 7 or 8" wide wheels (and in this case 225/50's) fit nicely, but it's fiberglass work and a repaint on the rear of the car. It did look good though...Al
