What steering shaft? Pics..

Hi all,

Trying to i.d. this as I need to get an adapter to fit my new banjo wheel. The shaft is 16.5mm in diameter and has 40 splines. In doing some research it could be from either from a super beetle or a bus. Anyone know by looking at it? How about the turn signal assembly?

Thanks Justin. Weird that the shaft is not from a beetle of the same era. I bought a adapter to fit 60-74 beetles and it is too wide (20 mm diameter) and mine is 16.5.

The switch is for a 66-67 beetle. Should be a standard beetle column, 59-73. Or Karmann Ghia column. But that diameter you quote is closer to a superbeetle shaft. I suppose they could have removed the outer switch housing and just used the super column with the 67 switch. Would be rather unusual.

Sorry, you replied just before I got my edit posted. Definitely looks like you've got some odd hybrid column going there.

If that's the case, vw 74-79 (super)beetles, 74-79 camper, -80 golf, -79 rabbit, -79 gti, polo, scirocco, and porsche -86 944 and 924 all show the same steering wheel adapter.

Where did you see the adapters listed? I was looking on ISP's site and they list several at 16.5mm for different applications but they are different enough to have me wondering....

Moto-lita.co.uk for their adapters it gives you a part number you can reference between vehicles. It doesn't give shaft/spline specs though.
