I started using this after reading the L&N Engineering article years ago. High in ZDDP. Just turned over 17k on the clock.
I used to change it over to 10/30 for the winter but really didn't drive it enough to justify it, so now the 20/50 stays in year round. It doesn't seem that thick to me. I start up in the cold with no problems.
I change my oil every other year. This stuff is $8+/Qt. so I want my $$worth.

Here we go again...I like Shell Rotella monograde 40W although I've heard that the newer specification has removed many of the additives flat tappet cam engines need (I believe they call it ZDP or something like that). I scored a couple of bottles of STP 4 cylinder oil treatment (which I can't seem to be able to find anymore; strongly suspect the EPA pulled it out of the market) to supplement it with the additives it lacks now.
Hi Ernie! I lurk around here every once in a while; still have my car and love it but don't get to use it as much as I'd like, working away from home!

Yes, that oil issue never seems to go away; I've been reading posts on that for a few years. The Brad Penn oil is talked about a lot and some other people use Harley Davidson 50W oil too. I just stick to what works for me; following the VW Service Manual. I knew there was a ZDP somewhere but didn't know exactly how many of each. Consensus was that for aircooled engines conventional is the way to go. Synthetic will make the heads run hotter and you don't want that.
