Just bought perhaps the most fun car on earth, (have owned > 200 cars)!
The door plate says it's a CMC with s.n. 1094. Chassis is a 1961 VW and motor is a 1971 VW.
Can anyone tell me when it was built?
The guy I bought it from was the second owner and did not provide any (read zero) details about the car.
Any help will be appreciated!

I have an invoice from CMC to the original purchaser of my kit dated 1985. The kit is serial number S1572. I guess this is fairly early? There's a great story on mine (or at least I think so): The body came slightly damaged and the purchaser wound up in a p***ing contest with CMC (what a shock!!). He never took it out of the crate and threw it in a ravine in Vermont. I heard about it and bought it a couple of years later for $1,500. Best money I ever spent.
Charles - Good story! Need picture of the ravine though! I was successful in getting $500 refunded to me as well as replacement parts (hood, trunk, windshield frame) shipped to me as result of damage. HA, I sure didn't see any CMC QA stickers on mine --- they must only inspect ever 1k car or so! On mine I told them I would contract for shipper and would have it delivered to NJ. They weren't happy and said I would regret it -- claiming their vast experience with shipping. Several days later it shows up at my door in VA with shipping bill 3X what I was able to get. Fortunately they shipped with PILOT who I had actually unknowing contracted with! Pilot ripped up the CMC way bill and used mine. Just had to round up few neighbors to slide it off the truck.
Wolfgang: CMC must have used the same ace shipping outfit when they originally shipped mine. It was supposed to be shipped to Woodstock, VT. Instead, it was shipped to Woodstock, UT, which, as it turned out, didn't exist, although they didn't figure that out until they got to Utah. Aside from the minor body damage, it also had a cracked windshield. According to the guy I bought it from, CMC didn't want to hear about any of this. Unfortunately, he had paid for all of it in advance (a questionable move at best) so he was really SOL. Of course, his bad fortune was my good luck. Sorry, no pix of the ravine, but I can tell you it was no treat retrieving the kit from the bottom of it.
