I bought a 911 (964 carrera) steering wheel with an airbag. I'm trying to figure out how to make the car safer and up-to-date. The steering wheel is leather and I am going to install porsche crest in the center. I just need to find the front sensors and then figure out how to wire it in. I may just install a dash switch since anything I hit in the front I should see first, I'll just wait until the last minute and hit the button!
Right now my handsome half, Steve is in the garage fabricating an engine cover release. He's really pissed at me because I told him I thought his initial idea was not aesthetically pleasing....

Oh well, doghouse again. I'll make it up to him by pulling the exhaust. We're going to have it thermal-coated. Also going to install brake fluid residual pressure valves. I'm pretty sure that's why the pedal throw is soooo loooonnnngg. The master is signficantly below the calipers.

Need to wet sand and polish the car also. Where is time going? Also need to lean out the PMO's a little bit. These sure make alot more power the the Zenith carbs did!

Should be a fun drive to knotts!

Well the madness never ends. I started fabing up a fuel tank. It will be different. It's about a 14-15 gallon tank. Most likely going to install an extra fuel cell fill cap I had laying around. It should look nice raised in the middle of the arched top of the tank. Also changing the fuel pickup point. The fuel bung is to far up allowing water to lay at the bottom of the tank. Not good.I'll post more pictures of the progress. Should have the tank done by Saturday...maybe!

Okay, I've been working on getting out of the doghouse with my husband. On Sunday we dismantled the front of his wrecked 911 Cabrio, applied a power post and removed the HUGE palm-tree shaped dent that allowed us to buy an ac/power window steel slope-nosed cabriolet for =$6,000... The car was his Christmas present (I know, nice gift - a wrecked car).

Yesterday I pulled the exhaust off the spyder and took it out for jet-coating. Removed the oil temp guage for repair. ORdered the correct jets for the PMOs. Order a pair of residual valves for the brakes.

GIT R DUN!!
angela
Ricardo,
Be careful what you wish for.......there is something about Angela that does not compute....Haven't put my finger on it yet, but something is amiss.....She's to guy like......
But on another note, after a little research into the Fuch wheels
on my 912 (which are very dingy/dirty/scarred, I decided they are much to valuable to ignore, so sticking with the theme of this post the 912 is on jack stands and the wheels are out being polished....
OK so its not about my speedster, still auto related...

That's what I did wrong!!!! I shoulda sent my Fuch wheels out to somebody ELSE to do 'em!!

I finally got them polished the week before last and putthem back on so I could ride around a little (they look great just painted and not even background painted), and now I'm out there today masking and clear coating - it'll be another week or two before I'm finally done (I have to wait for warm days to actually do the painting).

Oh well.....NEXT time!

gn
Gordon,
I have neither the time, energy or patience anymore to be doing any
real work...The money it cost to have it done is well worth it...
When their done, I will post the company who did the work for any locals who are lazy like myself.(if I like the way they come out)
I am choosing to not paint and leave the whole wheel polished, just to be different....
whats that saying again? one mans trash, another mans treasure.
hopefully these will house fuel injectors some day.
junk carbs, gutted, cleaned, sealed and then sprayed with
1994 saab grey (anthraciteish) single stage epoxy paint.
if i don't follow thru on the fuel injection, i'll make them
into book ends. for shop manuals of course.

Ricardo and Vince,
I am fertile, employed and have my own tools. In Oregon, that makes me the PERFECT woman!

And I met my husband in an auto parts store... Definately a perfect match!!

I have a really cool idea for the air cleaners on the PMO carbs. I'm going to have the tops cut out of safety glass. If you guys are at Knott's come over and see. I haven't seen anybody do what I have in mind. So one of two things, either it is either really cool and no one's thought of it yet or it is just a bad idea. I'll know here pretty quick!

angela
Ricardo, I don't have a sister, but if I did it would be my pleasure to introduce you!

As far as combine demolition, well I haven't seen it in real life but if I had the chance - DAMN STRAIGHT!!! I wouldn't miss that. I also like tractor pulls, mod bogs, rally racing (finest drivers in the world IMHO), autocross and hillclimbs. Not the off-road hillclimbs, the pavement kind with cars. I've got a record in-class on a climb here in so. oregon. Do you know that you can push a 1968 chevy pickup so hard around a corner that the front inside tire comes off the ground? Have pics. Looks cool. So much chassis flex that I had to tie the doors shut...

Steve found a limited slip transaxle for the spyder. Guess that will have to go in before Knotts too... I mean, it would surely be better to have the LSD in for the dangerous drive down I-5, right? Actually thinking about polishing the case before we put it in. The one that's in there now I painted. Maybe powder coat it? What do you guys think?
angela
Angela,

Let me pray that you and Steve don't do any hill climbing on the way to Knotts. Especially with my little Speedy tagging along on your trailer! Promise?

Note aside. Over at the So. Oregon race track, (near me), they have a autocross course laid out. They run several times a year I believe. Have you ever done those? This on the blacktop drivway into the course.

Bruce
Hi Bruce,
No hill-climbing with the lovely Speedy in tow. Besides, diesel crew cab pickups aren't high on the entertainment value for driving. We're going to warm the diesel engine up 100-125 hp but not before Knotts. Power is GOOODDD!!!

The autocross track out near you is operate by the local go-kart folks who have a sharing agreement with the Siskiyou Sports Car Club. I used to drive out there all of the time. That's where I learned to "drive" not just get around. Haven't raced out there for about 15 years but still run into old motor-head buddies. The track is a wonderful small car handling course with one long straight that rewards good acceleration and brakes. They start running in early spring and run through October. You MUST have a roll bar this is not negotiable. They'll loan you a helmet and give good breaks for first time racers. You'll be in 2nd gear maybe 3rd the whole course and will have a ball. They usually reserve a day each spring for practice sessions which is a great chance to get to know the track and adjust tire pressures etc.

Doesn't matter what you drive as long as it has 4 wheels on the ground. I had a Fiat X19 with a port injected Mazda rotary engine in it that I raced out there. Also raced the car with the stock 67 hp engine, but the 150 or whatever rotary horses were LOTS more fun! Until Steve and I built the spyder that mongrel Fiat was the fastest car I had ever owned. Funny, compared to the spyder, that Fiat seems so slow, even boring... I actually gave that car away (to a Siskiyou Sports Car Club member).

You getting Speedy ready?
angela
Angela,

It is starting to get ready, washed it the other day and then underneath to check on the oil filter inlet and outlet hose clamps and tighten them up a little. Got everything ready to start getting the 3rd brake light thingy hooked up. Still have to do a lot of detail work on the car but that is fun on a nice day. Had it out on Tuesday and drove over in back of Roxy Ann to get the oil warmed up good. Sounds like you are doing some serious stuff with the Spyder. Hope the SoCal rain has done its thing and moved out by the time we get there!

Bruce
Just received N.J. Allan Shapiro's Street Beast's Speedster
"in a crate kit" that I'll be starting on in May .

Surprised with the high quality fit and finish!

A number of items that I assumed would be in place are not.... E'brake and shifter mounting positions, heat and E'brake cable tubes have to be fabricated.....

Wait'in on Gordon's soon to be released new single
