All right, now that I got the damn lug bolt holes all clear I'd like to put some Fuchs replica/style rims on there but they are 5.5" wide with a 45mm offset.  This means I need to get them out towards the edges of the wheel well more.  I have a wide-body so Im not worried about anything fitting and I plan to use 205/xx tires on them (allegedly they will fit on a 5.5" rim).   What is the max you would go on a adapter/spacer arrangement??  I have some 4x130 to 5x130 jobs that CIP sells but I found another place that will supposedly machine some to your specs. for a little more dough.  Thoughts??

Frank;

look at Pelican Parts for a 4 X 130 to 5 X 130 billet 6061 adapter.  I bought mine from Pelican.  They are jewelry quality and are about 1-1/8" - 1-1/4" thick (can't remember).  I talked with someone at Pelican and they had them made to my specs (front and rear are different thicknesses).  Been running them for over a decade with absolutely no adverse problems.  IIRC, it took 3+ weeks to get them made and delivered.

Give them a call and see what they can do for you.

Danny,  I was wondering about how thick was too thick.  I could use 2 inches since the wheels are thinner than what I had and Id like to get them to stick out some more (less offset).  The damn Empi wheels are only 5.5 inches in width unless you g to 17" wheels with a 45mm offset.

Rusty, nice thought.  Might be a bit involved with lots of parts to replace.

Gordon, I had read old posts about all of this before posting and came across your article about Pelican.  I did use their website then called them as well.  Neither the Porsche or the VW guy knew anything any more about 4 to 5 lug adapters.  Maybe all the 4 to 5 lug folks already have their adapters.  I have a set of Empi adapters that CIP sells and they are supposed to be billet adapters.  The studs are not splined and pressed in.  They have just a threaded 14mm x 1.5mm hole and bolts that thread in. From there you'd use a ball seat nut.  Not too sure about them and wondered what else might be out there. I came across the EZAccessory site and wondered about their custom adapters.
