You are looking for an adapter that fits the "wide 5" wheels --the link to ebay is what you are looking for. I just got one from Manley and it is a wonderful thing. I instantly went from "noone in town can balance these wheels' to anyone can balance 'em. I think mine was about $60.00.

I have an adapter plate for balancing wide fives (a little like the one for sale/auction on eBay) it's for loan to anyone local.
Short of a balancer adapter plate, you can use a 5 lug brake drum.

I didn't take the speedster, just the spare wide five wheel in the back of my truck. Went to eleven tire places, at first I checked out the older independent shops, no luck. In fact, a couple were down right rude. The nicest were the Mexicans who only did trucks, they were really concerned. Finally, I checked the franchises, Goodyear and such. On the 4th try (was on my way home) pulled into Big-O tires on Main street in Woodland - bingo! All he said was "sure" then took me out to the shop and went directly to the wide five spiny-thingy-dingy, slipped it on my wheel and we made an appointment for today.

Sorry about my ignorance on this issue, but do the 4 bolt wheels (mine are from IM, not sure what make or such they are) have the same issue with balancing? I was thinking of taking mine in to have them done soon.

4 bolt wheels present absolutely no problem for the tire shops.
It's been many many years since VW and Porsche used the early 5 bolt pattern and because it's so old, not too many tire shops stock the adapter to fit the tire/rim to their balancing maching.

Just got back from having the new tires spin balanced. They treated me well, even let me hang around the shop while the work was done. Cleaned every thing nicely and repacked the front bearings.
I'm happy.

Everything these guys sell is top quality, and they "Mainely" sell to the Porsche crowd (although their prices seem reasonable for the quality of the products). They have no probblem selling to Replicars...in fact they were admiring a couple of them at a recent get-together here in the (cold for this time of year) Northeast.
