Quick question.
Looking at the current stock VW wheels 5x205 4.5, are they the same ET/ offset as the original 356 wheels? KInda collecting components to build a 356 chassis and would like to keep the look of the originals as much as possible.

I believe the stock Porsche/VW style found today, such as Mangels and even the Chinese repops have the same offset as in vintage cars. Wheel thickness on earlier models was 4-1/2" and later went to 5-1/2". Very early cars were 16" and later went to 15".
I love the early 16" but those are $$$. Thanks for the info! I think I'll run 4.5 x 15. 
Last year I replaced the chrome 5.5 x 15 Brazilian Mangels that my car originally came with 4.5 x 15 and love the way the wheels/tires tuck in a little bit more in the body and give the car that authentic vintage look.
That's the look I'm going for!
My Google search show OEM '57 Speedster wheels size as:

That's 5.5 rim width -- don't for get the 5.60 bias ply tires

I believe the Johnson book says the 4.5" width was earlier and then they went to the 5.5".
Yes, 16" x 3 to 15x4.5. According to Johnson, they never went to 5.5". I was just wondering if the offset between real "porsche" 15x 4.5 vs the current wheels available is different.
