wheel, tire, adapter size for flaired body

I am rebuilding a old CMC widebody, with the gold slotted wheels. What size and width wheels will fill up the wide flairs? Is it better to use adapters to the chevy 4 3/4 pattern to push them out and find more of a wheel selection ? where is the best place to look online for 4 lug vw wheels?

I am running a wheel 17X8 with a 5" offset. You should think about the tire dimension rather than the wheel size if you are trying to get fatter wheels in the wells. If you go larger than a 25 " diameter on a tires you may have a rubbing issue. If you are trying to convert to a chevy bolt pattern you are better off getting the drum and or disc rotor with the GM patttern. The converting adapters are not recommended for a car with extra HP.

Not many custom wheel stores in my area have a selection of wheels in the 4 lug vw pattern. I noticed that most of the speedsters have 5 bolt patterns. If you don't use adapters, are hubs available in all lug patterns?

The hub is the drum or rotor.If you look in the the HOT VW magazine you'll find suppliers that have drums and disc rotors with GM 4.5" and 4.75 bolt patterns. I paid $200 for four disc rotors with the 4.75" pattern.I'll see if I can find the #.
