It is now time to choose wheels for my IM project. I am going with 16 x 7, the largest we can fit w/o issues in a non flared body. These will have to have the 993 offset as well. Can I get the chrome steel wheel that looks original in this size and offset? Fuchs will not fit due to the offset. I can order some cool wire wheels but at a pretty penny. I can go with modern looking 911-993 wheels but dont like the look as much as eithe rFuchs or the chrome steel wheels.

Opinions, advice and details are welcome.

Hey Tomm,

Sounds like you and I are in the market for something similar. If you are interested in retaining a stock looking rim but want to go to 7 inches wide in the rear this may be one solution for you.

Get a set of the stock 15x5.5 Mangels and send them out to Trudesign wheels...1-800-621-6436. They will pull the centers and re-weld them into 7 inch wide wheels. Michael Carter used them and was satisfied with there service. I spoke to them a few weeks back and they told me each wheel would cost about $140 if I provide the original wheel.

Tell me more about the backspace you mention I'm curious to know which way it sets the wheel. Also I did not realize you could put a 16 inch wheel on an IM that will certainly change the ride. Lastly are you going to 7 inche width in the front as well?

Barry,
Wheels frt and rear are 16" x 6".
205/50R 16's on the Front (24.1" dia)
205/55R 16's on the Rear (24.9" dia)
both sizes have around 7.2" tread width and aprox 8.5" section width.

Note: I made a router tool to trim inside wheel well lips to thickness of 1/4" or less for clearance and looks
