Alan, not sure if one answer will work on all bodies, but, different answers for short axle vs long axle swinger and IRS cars for sure.

A lot of tire will fit under a short axle swinger and stock body, maybe as much as 225/60, I personaly don't know, but have read other articles that talk on the subject.

I do have a CMC car no flares with IRS and with 5 1/2 rims all around and 185/65's it looks good. I did have to change the rim back spacing (3/4 in) for the rears to clear.

I believe that Beck now sells special backspacing wheels just for this application. No one did 10 years ago when I modified mine. I think I could get 195/60's to clear but have never tried.

Can't speak on who makes good ones or not, my info is too old.

Good Luck - Boston Bob E

With me building "C" flared bodied speedsters in the past , I now have a stock body style IRS speedster project / build for my personal use...thus my questions :

Will the wider 5 1/2" rather than the 4-1/2" width chrome
wheels fit the stock body ?

What is the maximum ties sixe ..... 185 ?

What is the best "brand" as far as chrome holding up ?

"Who" has the best pricing for a tire and wheel package ?

Thanks Alan M
Alan,

The answer also depends upon whether your wheels are 4-130 or 5-205.

The aftermarket mangel wheels have greater offset in 4-130 pattern, so you can fit wider tyres under the arches with them.

I believe:

5.5" 5-205 ET 15
5.5" 4-130 ET 25

4.5" 5-205 ET 25
4.5" 4-130 ET 34

There is a special order 5.5" 5-205 ET 25 wheel. My set took 6 months to arrive from Brazil.

Oh, 195/60R15 tyres just fit on my (IRS) car.
