I am assembleing an OLD CMC traditional "tub".....Complete with body offset to the pass. side, courtesy of the glass mold.....It has Fuchs 5 lug, 15", by 5.5 or 6" rims.....It has 185 R 60 on the rear and they scrub the fender lips. (even after grinding the lips) Due to body offset, the
driver's side wheel is 1/4" closer than the passenger side, with heavier scrubbing....The car has a Ghia pan and IRS.....

The front has 165 R 55 tires which are just worn out, but appear to be a bit small.....

I would like to keep the 5 lug stud pattern, but I will either have to radicaly drop the rear tire size or find some rims with a more favorable offset.....

This can't be a "new" problem. Some one has gone up against this one before.....

("HELP!!!")

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....

Fill in the blanks..., sorry but I had to turn this sideways to make it as large as possible.

I redrew this just for you..., now don't you feel special.

Also do a search on "Difference in L and R rear body to tire spacing",
or you can search for "Broom Stick". Enjoy

I tried centering mine better when building it - the massive steel frame is bonded and riveted to the fiberglass body - so would vastly expand the 40 hours (yuck, yuck) build time to try to correct. There are key alignment holes that need to align with the pan too. In pictures of car when PO had it - it looks like it sat high in back especially for 60 series tires. Would going with 65 series tires and lowering the back an inch put the "buldgie" part above the lip? Lowering puts tires at a "tilting in" angle too. Do your rims have size stamped in back? If they are 6", there are 5.5" rims available.
David....Thanks. That will help if I can find rims with the needed offset.... My problem is finding an interchangable rim from some "known" brand / manufacturer.... Am I correct in thinking the bolt pattern is 5 X 130mm ??? What other auto uses that pattern??? That would give me a place to start searching from.... Every place I've checked out so far, limits my selection to just 914 type wheels....

Wolfgang.... I was thinking of R70s in the rear and R60s in the front....(Damn...sounds like my Spyder.) Think it would work???? Cooling tin boxed. Will tape up today and will pack when we head for Carlisle....
I have found from in-depth experience that, when your wife names something, no matter what, it's best not to even contemplate a sideways glance and just go with it.

"Scarlet" it is......Besides, I got to name "Pearl", I guess.

No problemo, Leon. See you at the Hotel Carlisle (or Dunkies for breakfast)!

Oh, and one of the founding families of the state of South Carolina where the Rhetts. There is one who runs an art gallery downtown even now (last name, not first).
