I would definitely be interested in a firewall like you have installed! I dig the look of it and the only thing that I would need to add to it would be a large hole for a dog house cooler to pull fresh air from. I LIKE it!!!Originally Posted by coolryde:

Ron, 56 speedster, & James I humbly thank you for the compliments. Yes that is a breather box.

Here is yesterday's progress. Mostly tig welding alum, time consuming and a pain. Not much different from the last photo but the welds and the BOV location. I put it close to the engine comp grill so that everyone can hear the wooosh sound when it blows off pressure. Kind of like a snake hissing...... muhahaha... Next to start plumming the cooant system for the water exchange intercooler....

If any of you guys and gals out there in speedster land want a custom engine, or other parts for your speedsters to give them that extra little something, I am currently doing private work.

I was just worried that there were open vanes that would get damaged. If it's a sealed charge cooler, then there is nothing to worry about.

yup that is a charge cooler water to air.

As far as the tires, still gonna run the 205 40 17's on the 7 inch wheels. At least until they wear out (which is not going to be long even given the fact they are new ) then I'm going to 215/35 or 40/ 17's

Did you make your own reservoir and is the pump mounted inside? The setup is looking so good that I'm getting inspired to add a charge cooler. I've always looked inside the engine bay and thought that I didn't have the room to add one and I like the way you addressed that. Not sure why I didn't think of it as I used to have an Accusump in that location and do have an oil cooler in the drivers side wheel well.

How do you plan to fill the reservoir and do you plan to add ice to it at all in the summer months or simply rely on the cooler? Any concern of heat soak with the reservoir mounted behind the engine?

How much would it cost for you to build the same header for me? I may be interested in other parts as well but this would get me started in a new direction. I'm running the CB end castings (2 into 1 on each side) with a single throttle body so my setup inside the engine bay would be a little different and though I've built most of the setup myself, I can't say that I have the skills that you do. Looks amazing!!!

I did make my own reservoir, however that is for my dry sump oil system, not the inter cooler. No reason for a resivior on there, as I have a ton of cooling built in. By the time the water gets from the cooler back to the radiator it should already be pretty cool. I'll have a gauge on it and if needed, I'll build a small scoop to push air through the radiator, and if needed I'll add fans. As far as where it is at, it took awhile to figure out where everything is going in this little car.....

First a very humble thank you. As for cost I will have to figure that out. Call me and we can go over some numbers 619-49O 918 zero

Very clean! I haven't called because shortly after I posted, I lost third gear and I need to get the trans out of the car and either have it rebuilt/beefed up or buy another one. The trans in the car is an AT code IRS with the single side cover but I really have no idea if it is stock inside or not.

It has taken punishment from me for 10 years now - the last 3 years being 2276 turbo punishment so I'm not complaining. If it is stock inside, these transaxles are pretty darn tough! Granted I rarely do a hard launch in first because it only burns the tires off the rims faster but I do run it hard 80% of the time that I'm behind the wheel so I'm not surprised that it finally gave up - probably spun third gear on its hub not being welded.

At any rate I'll be pulling the entire powertrain and will take the opportunity to do some upgrades as well like adding a charge cooler. Another question I have about your installation is what circulation pump are you using for your cooler installation and where did you mount it?

Well I had a chance tonight to put my foot in it so to speak and let's say boost is addicting I blew by a mustang and made the shif from 4th to 5th at his drivers door. I'm not he knew what passed him now for some more fine Tunning over the long weekend and some speedo spinning runs. Now I have to check to see how many mph a 170 kph equals.  GoPro videos coming This weekend as long as the weather holds out.

Kevin,

Are those circular holes in the firewall to pull outside air into the engine bay?, and does it work in conjunction with having removed the water catch basin in the lid under the grill? i.e....

...A lot of air in, with an unobstructed air flow escape venting to reduce engine bay temperature? Neat solution... if it isn't driven in the rain.

Thanks Marty,,,

Was she a bit cold or is that down to more tuning needed? Seemed to bog down a bit at low rpm?

It's not bogging to bad and it was still warming up. And yea I still have some tuning to do....

Nolan, dam right about the brakes, I just about stood on them at 100mph to slow down but was trying hard to not lock up the fronts. I need to push the limit a little more because I now with the dive we've built into the front a-arm suspension it will stop alot better then a beam car.

Hey Carl,

Hows life my friend.....

No the holes are only for looks. I did cut the rest of the water catch off the inside of the decklid. And yes I have driven it in the rain, got caught out in it the other day. It does allow more air into the Porsche fan and the oil and head temps have dropped with it removed and I drive my cars hard...

Well guys and gals, I got some more testing in this morning and on 12-14lbs of boost I spun the speedo needle up to 200 kph = about 120 mph and the car felt rock solid. I still had more throttle to go and the engine was turning 4,000-4,300 rpms, I just did not have anymore room. Dam people doing 70 mph on the freeway got in the way.....   Next run is on the track..... El Toro here I came ASAP......

NICE! At 14psi, you should be hitting mid 11's at the track easy. I get a kick out of how fast the speedo climbs and when I take people for rides, I tell them to keep an eye on the speedo and they are always amazed at how fast it passes 100mph.

I still haven't had the chance to pull the trans for a rebuild since I lost 3rd gear but hopefully will have the time to pull it in the next week or two.

Would love to see a vid of your 14psi runs....
