I looked at the rear suspension which is a modified 911 trailing arm. It looks like it has been shortened to fit the width and length of a standard 356 I wish they had more picts to see the full extend of the modification.

Looks like that's what they did.  I have to say I like the angle of the rear axles as the CV boots will probably last longer.

The guy never had the top up ...   and tells whom ever his lists of cars.

@bringatrailer I’ll look for photos when I get back from vacation.

I’ve owned 11 356’s. 3 were speedsters, 3 were roadsters, a Carrera GS and a alloy GT Speedster. This was my favorite driver except for the GT Speedster but that’s a whole different car but this speedster is definitely more potent)

And all the parking brakes aren’t to be trusted (as @bringatrailer disclosed). I’m sure the mirrors just need to be tightened though they always seem to vibrate in the housings so need to hold them to be usable!.

This Speedster was a no expense spared build. I wanted it to look stock but with enhanced drivability. I knew Rod from racing and was really impressed with the work he did.

He found the Speedster and drove down with cash. A lot of cash. It was filthy but no rust. Perfect candidate.

His latest generation polo motors are even better, but this car has great torque and power. This build was for usable torque not max horsepower so it was really great on the street. Gearbox and brakes and handling. I’d have no concerns driving it anywhere.

Maybe the new owner did, but I never had the top up!

Well as you go on and see lots of builds you realize the rear suspension can be addressed many ways by a builder.  We have seen Type I trailing arms, cut, shortened, Torsion bars cut and shortened.  But,  custom is not something that is easy for an out of town customer to service and then requires the builder to keep a stock or at least be available.  Hence solutions are chosen where off the shelf parts are available.  In your case some body mods are done to accommodate the 911 full length without any mods to the trailing arms.
