where is voltage regulator usually in a cmc based speedster | 356 Speedster, 550 Spyder, Replica, Automotive Community

My radio kept cutting out, long story short my my voltmeter shows the voltage spiking to 20 volts going down the road ... thats when the radio goes out. My alt number is a bosch 9-120-080-122 which someone told me has a external regulator, I don't see one mounted on the engine firewall, could anyone shed some light on this ? thanks Darrell the car is a pan based cmc.

That model # has an internal voltage regulator.

The older alternators had more wires - to accommodate an external regulator.

Yup, that one is internally regulated.

See my PM. A couple of alternatives, but you need to get that fixed before it does real damage to your other electrical parts.
