Hi there, I just managed to break the windshield of my CMC, does anyone know a source where to get them from. I would better buy a sekurit unit better than the laminated one, if you know what I mean.

Also does anyone know if the Chesil windshields are the same as the CMC's? I live in Spain, so I guess that having the windshield shipped over here is probably gonna cost more than the actual glass.

Thanks in advance. Ignacio

It used to be you could get a windshield for $400 USD.
The first check of the usual suspects was to these guys; $440 USD, two-thirds of the way down the list.

They're in the USA.
I'll keep looking. Have you called Chesil directly?
Cory, thanks for replying.

Yes I have contacted Chesil by e-mail, haven't received an answer yet from them (normal replying time over here in Europe can be more than a week, that is if you ever get the answer), I'll try calling them if I don't get any answer. I have also written to Vintage and to JPS, I have received an answer from Vintage, a bit dissapointed 'cause they say the windshield does not always arrive in useable condition even though it is crated to the best of the manufacturers ability. Shipping companies will not insure it,nor will they re-imburse if it is broken in transit. Nothing good specially as I will have to pay in excess of $600 just for the shipping.

I will start praying tonight...
I have to be honest; my old windshield cracked and I threw it away without looking for a replacement. I went Plexiglass and never looked back -- I gave away my top shortly after that, too.

Let me ask you a stupid question. Have you considered using a sheet of Lexan for a windscreen? Does the law require you to have glass?
It's expensive stuff, but if you're already looking at $1,040 at least for replacement glass that might or might not arrive on time and in one piece, it seems like a good idea to me! You could make a pattern off of the cracked one.

I assume also you've looked into having the broken one fixed?
Ignacio, All speedster windshields are the same. The windshields are mfg'd in Asia, Aouth Africa and Mexico(?) for a few. Brush up on your Portuguese and visit ebay "Brazil" and contact one of the speedster mfg'rs. Email one of them at "gilsongr@superig.com.br" his name is "Gilson". He's a little slow at replying but he may be able to help??? Not for sure.
Prices are fantastic due to the exchange rates. Speaking of exchange rates--visit Florida
for a week, get a tan and bring back a little extra carry on luggage. ----Probably your cheapest option.
Asked in all the car glass repair places over here, cannot repair a crack that goes that long (from top to bottom) just the ones that look like coins.. doesn't surprise me, but I told them when they said IT CAN'T BE DONE, you should say WE CAN NOT DO IT.

Anyway I also looked for companies that work with LEXAN and they told me they would need to do a mold of the windshield first, and only the mold would be in the area of 2000
I bought one from Vintage Speedster. It was like $345. The shipping from California to Dallas was another $80. All in all, a positive, easy fix. Not cheap, but fair. Some time back, someone coordinated a $250 group buy for 5 at a time. That might be arranged. About Plexiglass. I see no problems, except it really does have the potential to scratch if not properly cared for. Also, I do not know what the DOT regs might be if you wound up with a detailed inspection, or liability issues, if an accident caused significant liabilty.
Ignacio,
My son ships cars to and from Germany. They own two of those big steel shipping containers. 5 to 6 cars depending on size. They have the dryage and customs worked out. I'm betting he could just put the windshield, box and all, in one of the cars. I carried it around in the back seat of a quad-door pickup.

Anyway, I suppose it would coat like $450 to get it from Hawaii Guardens, CA to his shop in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. I could ask him, but I'm sure he would ship it to Germany for free. We would have to figure out the shipping cost from their German shop to your place in Spain. Are they on the same continent? Just a joke. I'm in Texas, and a lot of people mistake that for the United States.

Jack, many thanks for offering, really. At the end I finished up buying from JPS, who is sending to Florida, where my friend has his premises, he also has a company that sends cars from Florida to Barcelona (Spain), he told me exactly the same thing, he'll just put it inside one of the cars and I'll just drive up to Barcelona from my place to get it (1000km), so I'll just have to pay for customs if I have to pay anything (for the shipping I mean).

My wife is from Barcelona and we used to live there 2 years ago, and as she wanted to go and visit some friends I'll guess we'll do that and I'll drive down the glass then

Thanks again I appreciate it
