Well, I had a little problem last week which I thought was a broken clutch cable, no problem, right? I take it to my wrench to have him put one in and he calls me later saying I'd broken the clutch fork, again no problem, just get a new one and off we go. Nope. I just got back from his place and there is no 3rd gear anymore. It's shifts beautifully from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 4th but when you try to go from 2nd to 3rd, "Grnnnehhnnch" no go.
So, is it time for a new tranny or can I just get him to put in a new 3rd gear? I'm thinking I can get a used trany for pretty cheap, is it even worth it to try to put a new 3rd gear in?

Well I torn down one recently for a friend. who wants to stock a couple in his shop for resale, to replace a bearing that roared. We have not yeat had time to get back to it but he did find all the parts he needed and a gasket kit plus all seals.

You have to have a press to get it apart and it helps to make a few jigs to hold things like the bug books shows.

Its big messy job If i had it to do again . Id drain the grease out first and flush the case with varsol a time or too to flush it clean .

I found the smelly slimmy grease to the worse part,,otherwise If it was mine Id do it .

Where do you intend to get the third gear and syncronizers from?
