The seller said it was built in 2003. That may or may not be accurate. I am new to Speedsters. Where  do these cars fall in the food chain?

That's a CMC (Classic Motor Carriages) produced badge - kit could have been assembled by anyone though - like someone in Calif. All those Speedsters you may have seen in Airports in the '80s were CMC/FF kit cars.  CMC also came with a cast "Hibachi" aluminum single piece engine grill.

If the car was built/assembled in 2003 from a CMC kit then it was probably built by a hobbyist, not by one of the recognized makers such as Intermeccanica, Special Edition (Beck), SAS, JPS or Vintage.

Given that, it could have been done very well, rivaling one of the factory builds, or at any level down to terrible.

If you aren't familiar with these cars and you have a serious interest, you might appeal to someone on this site to evaluate the car for you.

There are knowledgeable Speedster owners all over the country.
