Looking at CIP1, there seems to be several versions of a headlight switch:
58 - 67 x ? pins
71-77 x 8 pin
68 - 70 x 6 pin

I want to use the 5mm ivory knobs I bought but now sure which switch is best and why the differing number of pins.

Similar question for the wiper switch as there are 2 models offered:
62 - 67
68 - 71

It does not look like either will fit through the thick fiberglass dash

What I did to fit through the thick dash is cut a hole in the dash big enough for the round part of the switch to fit into it with the rectangular part of the switch pressed up against the back of the dash.

If you want to use the original VW nut/bezel things you probably will have to use a chrome or stainless washer behind it because of the big hole.

With the wiper switch you have to be sure the wiper motor you have matches up with the switch you select. A motor for a column mounted switch won't work correctly with a dash mounted switch.

Some headlight switches support separately switch parking lights, some don't.

Some switches are intended for 6 volts, some 12.
Thank ya i have my moments.. I thouht about useing the 54 to 56 ford igniton switch and bezel (also labled) But you have to be careful when starting your engine with it.. No reset on the start feature like a 66 Vw

Ya might be able to tweek a relay on it for a starter reset

It also might be possable to carefully Die grind the center of the ford ignition bezel and glue it on as a over lay. but I didn't try it.
I believw it does Its been 10 years sence i've had it apart. But even if it does not, a file and a drill can fix ya right up. i do remmeber chucking two offthe large 66 ivory knobs on a threaded bolt in the drill to make the little knobs like Porsche used on some of the cars Would not be to hard to to do it to vw nut if its to big to fit inside the bezel recess. but i dont think that will be the case..

I used the small knobs on the fog lamps and a extra switch on the dash for a defrost blower. used a aftermarket push pull on switch and re tapped the treads on the switches with the shaft pulled out and and caught with vise grips.
