Good question(s), I had to check the dashboard . . .

The gauge that I'm trying to match is from the VDO Cockpit Royale (with cheese) series. Looks to be close to a 2 1/8' housing. Chrome bezel, white face with kind of "brass era" numerals and a black pointer.

Sorry for the confusion ! !

Thanks,

TC
tc, i'll check what i have. i have a set of cmc's i was
taking apart. reason: i was going to have the wife (art director)
scan the faces into photoshop and make up new (read, more porschish)
gauge faces to appy to the cmc's. i prefer the three gauge set up,
i'm just too lazy to fill in the other holes.
tc,
email me your address and i'll send you what i have. don't
know if they are better than what you have but they are no longer of
any use to me. my wife works in advertising, "oil of olay",
"history channel", "hertz rent a car", "continental airlines" are some
of her accounts from thew past. she worked in nyc at two different agencies for about 14 yrs. we live in nj, so she took a job closer
to home. still print advertising but now for drug/chemical companies
mostly.-bruce
ps--in order for me to remove the bezels i had to pry them off the gauge housing, are you doing the same?
tc, as for the favor you should look at "the goods" first.
the ones you have are probably better.
as for the photo shoots, i used to tag along on quite a few,
beautiful locations, great hotels, catering etc..wow, all good.
the old joke was to include a palm tree in your layout so the photo
shoot would be in a warm climate.
I'll look at the invoice. I am guessing $15-$20 for the larger bezels. Call Hartmut at Palo Alto . Corner cutting Right!! The only corner cut were the sharp sheet metal corners...Ouch! I got the cuts to prove it. The triple cluster was a bit on the high side. It did make a healthy dent in my budget. It does look nice . I was also able to purchase new glass faces from Palo for the 914 gauges to replace the scratched up plastic ones. Other neat detial items were the aluminum center button for the tach. If you need any tips on removal and installing bezels give me a call. It's not that difficult and you'll save some $$$$.

Joe,

Thanks for the tip, could I ask the price that they charged? I don't have a very big "build fund" right now and I still have to figure out the carpet problem. THAT'S the next big hurdle, and will probably hurt the worst.

I LOVE the variation on the 914-6 gauge that you made. All three-in-one and looking totally factory/factory built prototype.

VERY clean, sweet and subtle. Nobody will notice unless they know what they're looking at, and even then it's different from what they've ever seen.

Beautiful touch . . . . and high function as well.

Too bad that you've had to cut so many corners on your car, it could have come out really nice . . . :) :-) :
Bruce,

The bezels came yesterday, THANKS! At first I wasn't sure about them, then I tried one on a "test" brushed aluminum panel. I made the gauge hole slightly larger than the traditional 2 1/8 and slid the bezels through from behind so that only a 1/16 chrome lip was protruding and the "tapered" inner part of the bezel helped recess the gauge face. It looks very elegant' both new and old at once and a very nice and unique solution.

If I don't use them for this car, I'll use them for the one right next to it. Or, if you decide that you might want them back to use in a similar fashion, I can make you up a brushed aluminum panel that is a custom fit. Either way . . .

THANKS ! ! !
