I'm interested in the whitewall tires if I proceed with a new car....I spoke to a builder today and he said the whitewall tires are not good in terms of driving ability, ride comfort, grip in the wet, etc.....understand he wasnt saying not to get them.. but more so letting me know what to expect.
Given the width of the tire I dont expect much but if I could get some feedback it would be much appreciated.

Depends on the brand and type[ Bias Ply 'Pie-Crust' or Radials]as to handling, but WW-Tires are a cruiser tire IMO.

I like them as the give a "Continental" Feel to the cars if they are all accessorized up with badges, straps, luggage and trim.

You've got to REALLY want them, though. $216 each.
Michelin Redlines are the hardest, most unforgiving tire you can have on a car. I had them on a TR6, and it was like driving on bumpy ice. They have no grip at all, and really are only good for show.
They may look nice, but don't bother with them.

I have em on my bug and they do the trick. You can put em on ANY tire you want with no performance issues
i've heard port-a-walls seriously mark up the tire sidewall.
i have a set of 2 3/4" bias ply whitewalls (mounted/balanced on wide5 smoothies). Not great for handling but look the part. (they are FS if you are interested)

Yes if your going to do some hard cornering you can cut a tire with a port-a-wall But for normal driving they are fine and if you are concerned put a bead of silicone on the back lip and that will fix that issue
You might want to upgrade from silicone to black urethane sealer It can get messy have some acetone handy for clean ups.

I distinctly remember a real speedster with the 16 inch skinny rims it was cream white with a tan roof and 3 inch white walls. It was very regal looking . But somehow very cartoon like .. the 16 s hurt it
