Anyone out there have and insight on the Mitsu Evo's? For whatever reason this car keeps coming up on my radar. I either see something online or TV, or someone mentions one in conversation, or, you know what I mean.
I checked one out at a dealer. The new ones are pretty sweet. 295hp @ 6500rpm 300ft/lb @ 4400rpm and you can add an aftermarket package (chip?) and exhaust that'll get you an addtional 100hp, though I'm sure the 295 is adaquate. All wheel drive and seems to get alot of praise from the auto aficionados. It's not the sexiest looking thing but remember I got kids and they gotta fit in the back.
Any of you folks have any experience with one of these? Anyone know of anyone who has one and give me the skinny?
As always, any info is appreciated.

Mickey - we have a buddy whose quite an Evo enthusiast. He's on his second or third one now. They are truly rockets. You might check into the price of a new clutch though... I believe he told me something like $3,000 installed? Can't remember the exact price, but I distinctly remember going DAMN - that's more than a 911 clutch!

Clutch aside, his car is fast, great handling, love the seats and it's spot on reliable. It would definately be one I would consider.

Check out prior issues of "Car and Driver" magazine on the web. I toss my old issues, but it was in the last few months. They are very high on SOME models of the EVO. Some seem to be very hard edge performence machines, others are a bit softer, more touring oriented. All have decent performence. It is a heavy car and does not always win their comparision tests, though it seems to be
far above the average transportation and should provide lots of fun driving.
I've been looking at these for a little while and I've always shyed away from them in the instance of buying a used one. They seem to be the car the kids tweek to the limit and then beat the piss out of. Now that Mitsu has made the Evo much better looking as well as better performing I'm considering a new one. I can't see why they would limit the warranty if you auto x it? I CAN see it if you alter it in any way.
I would more than likely get the MR version which is the one with the new double clutch system and paddle shifters. When the weather gets nicer I'm going to test drive one. The good thing is I'm not in any hurry to get a new car I just want something different, fun and fast.
