Hey everyone,

Just looking for advice/thoughts on this one.

I can tell that the interior was slapped together pretty quick, but I can handle correcting that (and the colour) myself.  I'm more interested in the engine and body (or at least, their potential).

Look at the side view pictures. The trailing door body joint is tighter at the bottom than the top.  This indicates butt sag, search this site for how to correct.

I note you are from Canada.  Search this site for importing cars into Canada.  As I recall there are some hoops to jump thru, perhaps age, mileage??

This is at least the second time this car has been listed.

that's funny, I JUST typed "...doors look like they line up okay...." while you were posting that there might be a slight difference! lol I guess I didn't study the pictures close enough.

(but I know of the sagg-fix instrux on the site)

Yeah it didn't say that it was a CMC but I was guessing it was.

Since it's being sold by a stealership, that's already one red flag...

That car is only a few miles from me (Morrisville is just a few miles from Raleigh).  I know the story of it from the last couple years.  It was for sale on The Samba for quite some time by a guy in Mooresville, NC (about 40 min north of Charlotte).  He said he had owned the car for about 2 years before putting it up for sale.  He started out at $12K, and after several months he had the listing down to $9K when it disappeared.  No telling what it actually sold for.

After that, while searching for a 356 replica online, I stumbled across it for sale (and I can't remember where), but it was one of those big classic car dealerships, IIRC.

Then about a year ago it appeared on my local Raleigh craigslist for sale by this dealership.  When they originally listed it, they listed it as a 3 cylinder 1600cc.  I contacted them and told them that it was an 1835cc because I remembered that from The Samba listing (and also that it was a four cylinder!).  They also said that they had owned the car for most of it's life (clearly a lie, that they removed from the listing after I contacted them to call them on their BS.)

Anyway, I would stay away from this car.  It has a dubious history, the aforementioned sag, and the engine bay isn't properly sealed off.

Thanks for the info, Era. My preference is to stay away from stealerships and you've just demonstrated why!

In this case, since it was a widebody and those are harder to find, I thought I'd give it a shot.  Thanks to a little "Widebody 101" from Troy however, I validated some of what I thought I was seeing and now know what's up.

Things like the 3 vs 4cyl me laugh though.  I built a Town Car some years ago (that my then-wife sold.....for what I told her it was worth... ) and saw it listed for sale recently with the wrong manufacture year listed.

Like.....don't you see it written on the Ownership?! Or...d'ya not pop the hood and count the squiggly wires going into that big metal block?!
