Kevin and I should be rollin in around 5 or so. We will unload old Blue, check in and then stretch our legs abit. After all that is done I'm sure we will be ready for some chow, a frosty one (or two) and some conversation.

Who's in?

Jerome

PS: We'll be rollin in my trusty Red Dodge Dakota and Black enclosed trailer. So keep yer eyes peeled!

PSS: Is'nt it about time for me to start posting the weather forcast :)

Finally been out a few times in the past few days (Rhode Island Shore Weather sucks) and don't really have much to do to get ready, other than going down the spares list from last year. Been driving a lot in SC, so I just kept it nice (except, of course, for the thick coating of road grime when we trailered back North - took three applications of rubbing compound to get it all off!)

Chris and I should be rolling in about the same time as you'se guys - see Y'all at the picnic tables!

Maybe we can do a country, back-road cruise Thursday Night!

I'll admit I have the gift of gab when it comes to speedster purchase justification , glad to step up and give it my best pitch , maybe can have a "pep rally" (aka both have the same song and dance routine down ) prior to the actual presentation :)

Bruce ,
Yes we have a hospitality room and pool at the hotel as well as billiards too. I'll have to wait untill tomorrow to contact Connie at the hotel to inquire about the possibility of a wash area...Alan
John (as in Hoss):

"Winter Dust" defined; that thin coating of (formerly) airborne "motes" that became gravity challenged, on all Speedsters in the colder climes of just about anywhere, when the car cannot be driven for those few months during the Winter. These Speedsters set up a localized gravitational field which is highly attractive to airborne Motes in the process of becoming gravity challenged, thereby using those motes to form a protective cover on the car's surface to ward off bird droppings from those birds trapped inside the garage during the Winter (similar to those seen inside the Home Depot in January).
The cure for this condition is a thorough washing, drying, preferably with a chamois, to remove said coating and restore the original cars' "luster".

Lane: Get someone with a Speedster with a nicely appointed interior (that's most of them) AND a quiet exhaust system (we tend to be a bit louder than "stock", but a few are pretty quiet) to give your wife a ride to one of the evening dinners. THAT should do it! DON'T go for the flashy cars with the loud exhaust!!!!!! That'll turn her off in a New York Minute.

P.S; I think she might like Jerome's.....Or Jordan Christianson's
Lane,
Will your wife be present at the event? If so, I think that the camaraderie of the group will go a long way to convince her that this is no ordinary hobby. While we are not all involved at the same level, there are turnkey buyers and committed builders, we all share a love of these cars and the people who share this passion.

Life in this generation is not easy. We live in a world of globalization, high tech and high stress living to an unprecedented level. We all need some kind of outlet to keep our sanity, or at least that

Guys,

You all offer good advice - that I will have to deliver to her second hand as she is not coming. She is supportive of my getting a "toy car", but is not particularly interested in cars (she's a sports junkie). She is also fiscally conservative due to some chaos in our finances caused by a couple of layoffs in recent years (gotta love being in high tech).

John, I absolutely agree that this hobby is important to maintaining sanity. I owned, restored, and showed a '65 MG Midget for 10 years and miss it, as much for the comradery as for the car itself. But I really want something different this time. I am looking forward to meeting you guys and riding in some of your cars as I have not had either pleasure yet.

Hmmm... I turn 50 in just over a year. Maybe I can claim mid-life crisis. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I agree with "other outings" and Charleston sounds great.

My wife, Billie, has lived through many of my "i gotta have it" cars...but isn't making the trip, just too long, too far, etc...but it never hurts if there are nice places to go, a beach nearby, etc....

The best thing to do, is give her the keys (only temporarily) and a little room, and she might love the idea of a speedster.
Actually, I think there's a car event in Charleston next weekend, and the Beaufort Classic Car Club is affiliated with almost all of the other clubs within a four hour drive, so they go to a lot of events that are within a three hour drive one way. Been to Augusta, GA, Savannah, GA, Charleston, SC and many other places just this past Winter. Real nice bunch of folks, and there are THREE Speedsters in that club alone (the most of any model in the club!)

You can check their web site at: classiccarandtruckclubofbeaufort.org/

You can also check the club list at Hemmings Motor News (www.hemmings.com) to see if there is one in your area that you might join. You'll most likely end up with a classic car club as I did, including street rods and other classics, as there aren't THAT many 356's running around.

I was just looking at the Weather Channel and looks like you guys going to Carlisle might get a little left over Knotts dew. Looks ominus for you guys too. Oh well, button up those Speedies and drink more beer. We had a washout on Sunday at Knotts so guess this is the year of wet car shows.

Have fun anyway and take lots of pictures.

West Coast Bruce:

I've been going to or watching others go to Carlisle/Hershey shows for 4 decades now. In the earlier days, the fields were not paved and everyone set up tables where-ever. About 85% of the time in the past it has rained - sometimes torrentially - which meant LOTS of rain ponchos and LOTS of people walking ankle-deep in mud all day, and STILL we all looked forward to doing "Carlisle". Now, it's all paved, has several nice pavilions for suppliers, some TERRIFIC food booths and lots going on.

Don't know how we lucked out last year, but we did - until, that is, we were heading home and then it just plain opened up, all the way from NJ to RI without a let-up and Pearl, on a trailer, with no top!!

At least this year we'll have a top to put up!

Weather be damned! We're going anyway! Only thing that'll stop Chris and me is that Grandbaby coming early!!

Gordon and Chris Nichols
Five Cent Racing
We live about an hour from Carlisle and this weekend the prediction was "Thunderstorms" Saturday and Sunday. We had a shower Saturday night for about an hour - other than that it was gorgeous - we sailed both days. My check with Carlisle says "Few Showers" right now, a couple of days ago it said "sunny". Fellow sailors call the weather channel the Liars Club, wonder how often they are right?

Last year the prediction for Carlisle weekend was storms, we drove through a torrential downpour early Friday morning and then the sun came out and temps went to the high 80's the rest of the weekend. I'm with Gordon - weather be damned! Besides, the beauty of these these things is they don't rust like their original brothers.
Wild Bill:

Got that Primo, Top-o-the-line car cover all ready to go! In fact, my wife was just asking today if I wanted to get one of those canopy-things for the meet. Told her "Heck no! I've got my Blue Tarp!!!"

I saw how the other guys were looking at it last year with those jealous eyes.....it looked so beautiful with the early morning sun glinting off of it and evaporating the remnants of that late night shower. Wouldn't want to deprive anyone of seeing a true classic; the Home Depot blue tarpaulin - cover for many roofs and few Speedsters. (and I think Chris is still embarrassed by it). Hope the mice didn't eat any holes in it during the Winter.....

This year, we'll make up for it with our Cool "Speedstah" Tee-Shirts!! Whoo-Hoo!
I hope it's warmer there than it been here (Rhode Island) lately!!

I was out mowing the lawn a few minutes ago and, while the thermometer said 56 (F), with the breeze off of the Bay and the moisture in the air, it felt more like 40! Not exactly bare knee weather, there, Bill!!

WX Forecast still looks good......trailer's in the front yard waitin' for Pearl, stuff's organized in the garage, and we're packin' up tomorrow afternoon for a half-past-dark departure on Thursday morning!

From the "Blues Brothers": "It's dark, we've got a pack of cigarette's and a full tank of gas" It's on to Carlisle!!!!

The guys from Five Cent Racing, headin' South.....
Got ol' Blue in the trailer, ready to roll!

Jody, I'm thinking we'll just hang out at the hotel and eat there. But, if we feel like going out I'll try to hold off the pack until you and Don show.

Be sure you post your cell number on the other thread.

Don't forget your Woody!

Jerome
