About a week ago I'm coming back from a Friday night cruise thing. Hit the freeway and ran at about 4000 RPM (near 80 MPH) for over 30 miles to my home. Cool night air, ran like a champ, power to spare. Next time i drive it - crappy idle, backfire on closing throttle, "chuff, chuff" at constant speed.
Checked cylinder pressure - all consistent. No loose spark plugs. No obvious intake leaks. Both fuel filters look realy clean. Damn, this might be something realy serious!
Make appointment with Dave Forbis at Buggy Works, Santee. He finds a blown intake gasket on one carb. Synchs both carbs, resets the idle. It runs like ape shit again.
He also had a 21 (?) window bus with roll cage and a V8 for power. Sorry no details. Another standard bus that will be air-bagged and in the weeds. A turbo beetle beater is his daily driver.
Ya just gotta love this guy.
