I should never have painted my car silver. ;)
.... but I keep hearing how you can buy a real one for the cost of an Intermeccanica.
I have heard of around $200k but never $300k. Amazing.

The worst part is, it's an awesome nice, fast car... and it will probably be a showroom, museum-type display car, and not be ridden like Porsche wanted it to... :(

I'm going to have to say that in this particular case, it WAS an SCCA racer; I think that car is in remarkably good shape -- to look at the auction video -- and it has already paid its dues. Maybe preserving this car in a museum-like setting is good for the marquee as a whole.
It's like being able to view Walt Disney's head. Either the novelty of an original piece of history appeals in the unemotional sense, or that little beast needs to keep creating history while there's life left in it.
I guess that's not really a valid comparison. Best I could come up with off the top of my head.

wow - that a lot of coin.
it went from 200 to 300 in about 7 seconds.
i think it's safe to say that is the highest price seen for a 356 so far (that i am aware of). Except maybe that silver 1949 if it comes up for sale...

It's a 4-cam speedster! It's got racing provenance, it's straight, and there was only what, 13 of 'em made? Right now $150K gets you something "OK". $300K for this car is a steal.
It'll be worth half a million in two years.

I've heard of those engines going for over $100k by themselves.
Mike, Be careful... the LMS is a blonde ... and tough, too! I could whip her in a fair fight, but she has never fought fair!!!!
Mike-
If that car is ever within 100 ft of a road, I'll eat Hoss' hat.

Hey Mike, can you come up with a graphic for that one?
Teri is also a blonde.....I don't care what you say, they taste better....and worth the trouble...
I mean real blonde's, not the replica ones....
