I'm going to have to say that in this particular case, it WAS an SCCA racer; I think that car is in remarkably good shape -- to look at the auction video -- and it has already paid its dues. Maybe preserving this car in a museum-like setting is good for the marquee as a whole.
It's like being able to view Walt Disney's head. Either the novelty of an original piece of history appeals in the unemotional sense, or that little beast needs to keep creating history while there's life left in it.
I guess that's not really a valid comparison. Best I could come up with off the top of my head.
