I have never heard of anyone redrilling 4lug drums into wide five, maybe it can be done. Is that what you ment, reuse the old 4lug drums?

Or- you can simply get a set of drums from a 1966 and use them. I think you will have to swap out the shoes and interals, but is should work fine.

Tom,

I converted my '72 pan to wide 5. I used discs up front (an excellent kit from CSP) but stayed with drums at the back.

If I recall correctly the standard wide-5 drums are less deep than the 4-stud ones so you need to make a metal spacer to go between the axle nut and drum (and replace the internals with the early narrower shoes, loosing braking efficiency).

What I did was buy special wide-5 drums from CSP that are designed for later cars (the same depth as the later 4-bolt drums) that are a simple bolt-on replacement. You'll find pictures in the chassis section of my website www/hambly.org.uk/chesil

Tom,

I have a '68 (four lug) ball joint front end in my car. I bought a set of '67 front five lug drums and just bolted them on as though they were stock. They fit fine.

For the rears, I just went to the local brake/machine shop and asked them to redrill the rear drums for the wide five pattern.

The car has gone from AZ to ME to MA with out a wimper.

Luck or whatever, it was easy and dirt cheap and still on the car and working well.

I'm changing to four lug for the disks and improved braking, but the old system still works GREAT!

Luck.
