While I was at CB Performance last week I saw their new wide-five disk brake setup for front and rear brakes. SoCal also offers wide five disk brake setups.
Anyway, I called Henry at IM and asked him to 86 the SoCals and order the newly available CB brakes. Here's why:
1. SoCal rotor and hub are all one piece, steel, and heavy; the rotor cannot be replaced separately. SoCal hubs use 12mm screw in wheel studs (screw ins on drive wheels are not sanctioned my most racing bodies).
2. CB Performance rotor and hub are separate parts (bolt together); the rotors are a stock item available from an auto parts store. CB hubs are "Alfin", e.g., steel centers cast into aluminum hubs which makes them light, but strong. CB hubs also have pressed in 12mm 9or 14mm) wheel studs which are OK for racing. CB will have a front version for both stock and dropped spindles.
I talked to the guy running CB's prototypes on his VW; they told him to break them, and he's been trying, but they're still in one piece.
