Will wide five wheels go straight on to an VW irs suspension? if not how do you adapt them ?

No - they are the older swing axel wheel solution (pre 1966). So different brake drums or adapters required. There are some good write ups on what's required written here in past. Often its a costly conversion. Here's results of "wide five conversion" search on forum:

The wide five wheels are sharp, but if it's costly the swing axle is the obvious choice.I guess the handling is fine with swing axle since that is what the Becks use(?). Does the camber compensator make the swing axle behave like an IRS rear end?

It's not hard. you need 1967 brakes (drums, shoes, cylinders, hardware) and for the rear - you need to cut off ~12mm off the nipple from the old 4 lug drum for a spacer.

it'll make sense once you see the pictures.

The man said it: '67 parts and the spacer which is offered by vendors. The camber compensator is a worthwhile addition as it makes swingaxle cars handle better and safer.
