Wide Wide Fives

Jjr and myself started rebuilding his old Manx II. We took the body off the pan last weekend and intend to redo the whole thing. He's been looking for a pair of 10" to 12" wide stock wide five style wheels with the capability of installing hubcap clips (he wants to install VW moon hubcaps...that's old school baby!!). Where could he find those?

I'll keep a serious eye out for you, and hit the little dune buggy shop on the Cape this weekend . . . just in case. I recently scored a pair of 11/12 inch wide, stock center rims mounted with 13 inch wide Goodyear slicks ! Talk about Ol' Skool, I have them in my living room just so that I can look at 'em and laugh ! ! ! ! !

They're just so cartoon cool.

Thanks TC...you know, those rims really look cool with the hubcaps on...just check out the early Manx sales literature.

There is a junk yard in newark nj with an old baja bug hung up on top of their "hut" with
that style rim on the rear. (not useful info(sorry) just trivia).

We actually found out he needs 15 by 8's. He's looking into Stockton Wheels in California.

Ricardo, Check out Trudesign wheels...1-800-621-6436....They'll widen a pair of Wide 5s wheels for about $70.00 each.....Stocken Wheel gave me a price of $140.00 each! Talk to Jim Lyon..the owner..Nice Guy!

That's it Jeff, exactly!!! That's the old school look he's going for. Is that one of your cars? Those seats look comfy; what are they?

It is one of my cars. Actually my current project. Its a true Meyers Manx. Wide 5 bolt pattern. I believe they are original to the car.

Sorry, the seats are out of an old Camaro I think. I have since tossed them as they were trashed. The wheels will be going up for sale soon as I have purchased replacements but they have not yet arrived. unfortuneately the car is jammed into my garage now waiting until I build my new shop in the spring.

Well Jeff; let Jjr know as that's exactly what he's looking for....his car is exactly the same one; a Manx II that was built back in '68 or '69.....totally old school.

Update; Jjr ended up getting the wheels from Stockton and they did an incredible job. Here's a couple of photos of the paint in progress...

Ricardo, I joined this late in the game, but I went to Pacific Customs for my Wide 5s; (951) 738-8380. Very helpful guys.

Well Cory, he had to go to Stockton since he wanted the factory look (so as to be able to put on the VW baby moon hubcpas) for the old school theme. What they did was to get a pair of old VW smoothie rim centers and they just welded them into a new wide outer part with the offset he specified, etc.

I would still like to do something about the seats...

Jjr says the seats look very "Riceburnerish" but they're very comfortable and that's what he found easily at the local Pep Boys.
