widest wheels on standard body??

I have a speedster without flares, what are the biggest wheels that anybody has fitted. I am looking at fitting 18

On my Vs it was hard just to get 195/65/15s to work and i got the beck rims

The largest size the Beck folks will put on is 185/65-15. These are on 15x5.5 rims with a +24mm offset.

Look up Michael Ballard here. He did a radical treatment on his non-flared Vintage.

You'll need to figure out if you plan to run rear disc brakes too. If I remember correctly it adds 1/2" Also I'm not sure if you are running a swing or irs. I have a swing. I have 17 x 7.5 with 205, 40's on a standard body. I can't recall what the offset was. What I did was changed to a short axle housing and custom made spacers. I have about 3/8" to the spring plate and about 1/4" at the fender. Heres the important part. I have a swing axle. It allows for the arc of the swing to almost follow the inside of the fender, hence no rubbing. Now IRS will basically move straight up and down. It will rub the inside of the fender.
I've seen Michael Ballards in person. Beautiful car. I did notice a lot or rubber shavings. Not sure exaclty from where it was coming from.
On the front, why not just run 1" spacers and longer studs.

Thanks Ben, you have given me some hope. Yes I am changing the rear drums to disks at the same time. I do have a swing axle, do you have a measure ment that i can check to see if I have the short axles installed. what do I look for (what year or model had the short axles).

The front spacer sounds like a plan!

I'm not sure what years the short axles came from, Mine is a 68 pan and it had the long axles.
The measure I took is about 3-1/2" from the spring place to the inside of the rotor. Hope this helps

Is there a narritive on Mr. Ballard's treatment? I like the look of his car and would entertain a like conversion.

i have 195 x 55 x 15 and a rear irs on a standard cmc body. I has to shave the wheel well lip of, so not to rub. I am switch to a taller tire the winter. probs go 195x75x15.

George - you might want to check with Bruce Chow (Ibonku2). He has a wide flared CMC with CRAZY big wheel & tires!

A i95 puts a decent amount of tire on the ground even a stock 165/70/15 is more than came on the early ones they had a 3-1/2 rim with a 145 on them Now that is not enough I am concidering trying a 185 /70/ 15 if i can find them to see if I can reduce the rpms at 60 mph.

Mine is not flared.

not at all, Jim, i appreciate the reply. I was torn between flared v. non. I really needed roll-ups and gad difficulty locating one with both, so I jumped on an IM that needs work.
This club and list are a wonderful thing. I can twist a wrench (and an occasional wench) and the speedie is facilitating both ;-{))>!

If you put spacers on the front better buy the highest quality wheel bearings oyu can get cause after market can't handle the aditinal stress . thats why i made a wider beam for old yeler and did a rack up grade I have put 3 sets of bearings on it now they are crap and you need german bearings for it to work. this is a VS

Good luck on getting a set of real german wheel bearings.
