While at the Carlisle gathering, several folks informed me my brake lights were not functioning......Danny Pip furnished a replacement bulb, moral support and first aid advice....Needless to say, the bulbs were not the problem....After getting home, checking the fuses and wiring, etc., I ordered replacement switches.....While awaiting delivery, my brake lights started working again, then they quit again.

While filling up at the local fuel farm, my wife pulls in and tanks up, and we leave together, with me in the lead...She is aware of the brake light problem and keeps a safe distance....On the way home, a rather large DEER (doe) jumps into the road ,almost on top of me, despite the almost straight exhaust....Buried the brake pedal into the carpet and prayed the TOO LATE light stayed out...It did.

Once at home, the wife tells me that the brake lights are working again.....As I had new light switches on the shelf now, I took my time doing the replacement....Dreaded bleeding the system, even though I have a vacuum type bleeder system...

Danny Pip had said it was a piece of cake in Carlisle, and it turned out to be just that.......Thanks Danny...

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.....

You know, it really isn't that big a deal even if you don't have a pressure bleeder. When you don't, it can even become a community affair: Get your spouse or spouse-equivalet involved to push the brake pedal, or that nighbor who's been pestering you for a ride or whomever. The whole she-bang should only take 45 minutes or so, and you can have a fun time doing it! Don't forget the beer!
Leon,

You don't always have to bleed the brakes when replacing the switch. I didn't. Just top up the brake fluid and wrench off the old switch slowly until it is almost out. make sure you have the new switch right there and also prime it with brake fluid. unscrew the old switch and plug the hole with your finger until you get the new switch in place screw it in and presto minimal spillage and brakelights! Worked for me, info was found and used from previous threads on this site.

Cheers
Dave
