I looked into these things also, I measured the width of the windshield post on Speedy and seems like it was 1" wide. If you cut down the dune buggie wind wings they would probably work OK. Problem with my car and I assume everyone elses's is that the wind blast comes from the rear, always tugging at my cap or hat and pulling/pushing the brim or bill down over my eyes, not good! One of those wind deflector deals you see on Z-3,4's and Boxters might be the ticket. Anyone ever done one for a Speedy? Think it would be pretty easy and slick, anybody have thoughts on my idea?

Yup, works like a charm. I think I did a write up on it - I'll try to look it up on here.

I have a CMC with a roll bar, so I got some black window "U" channel made for guiding a side window up and down in a door. It is some sort of woven metal in a "U" and then has a fuzzy material on the inside of the "U" and a cloth fabric on the outside.
It is easily bent to the shape of the inside radius of the roll bar, fastened on with screws through the "U", the 1/4" plexiglass is slid in from the bottom, and then a final piece is attached to the bottom of the glass to hold it all fast.
The amount of buffeting in the back of the head is cut to practically zero, you can hear each other in the cockpit a lot easier (along with the radio) and it seems a lot warmer on cooler days. The whole thing took about 2 hours to complete, and a local auto glass shop gave me an 8 foot length of the "U" channel for free, just to give the guy a ride!!

I've found one picture, but I'll look for another. The thing is well near invisible when installed, and I applied velcro to the bottom of the window frame and the top of my tonneau to hold the tonneau up when inuse - works nice.

OK, let's see;

I was stuck with the roll bar location and that was that. It works amazingly well, too.

I drove my neighbor's BMW convertible with a mesh blocker, but the mesh has to be supported with a rigid frame whilst the plexiglass will pretty much support itself if you run 1/4" thick or better, making the whole installation much easier.

Someone else on here (one of the Canadians) turned me on to the Miata site, and they've had a bunch of people expirementing with wind blockers for some time. Try going to this site:

and poking down through them. One of them built a blocker that straps onto the bucket seat backs and is held up with straps or something and seems to work well, so THAT might be the answer for you roll bar challenged folks. I don't think it has to be super strong to stay upright, just a little strong, so the strap mounts might be just the ticket.

BTW: I'm 5'-6" tall and I STILL lose my baseball hat over about 50 mph (unless I really cram it down on my head!) THAT part never changed, but at least I'm not getting slapped in the back of the head any more, and that low frequency wind rumble is completely gone.

When I posed my 'newbie' question a few years back, about how to keep a hat on, now that I am prone to concern myself with getting too many of the sun's rays, I was told to staple the hat to my forehead. Thanks Dale.

Ray, I'm sure every conceivable option imagined has at one time been on one car or another... John Leader thinks I have them all, now, on my replicar! In one of my little teeny-weeny grey folds of memory, I think I saw windies on a speedster; where, when, who knows!
