Gang,
I got my 356 from "FiberFIB" back in 1990 and got stumped on the windshield. They didn't predrill the windshield post holes and it stopped me dead in my tracks. It's been collecting dust since. I want to jump back into it but I need to know the exact distance between the holes (Center to center) so I can drill them and get this thing on the road!!!!! I have to do it right the first time!!!!Can anyone give me the distance? Someone out there has to have their windshield off right now. A number please!!!!!!!! Thanks!

This is another case where someone kindly posts a link and when I click on it I am asked to log in again. If I do log in I just get directed to the home page and have no connection to the information desired.

Is it just me that has this problem?

If not, it sadly seems that trying to be helpful by posting links to useful information seems like a wasted effort.

The same kind of thing happens when I find a useful post and bookmark it. My bookmark is useless because when I click it I get the log in thing again.
I'm sure the problem is in how you have the browser set to handle cookies. I've got to log in every time as well, but I don't want to change my settings, so I just "copy" everything after the "http:www.speedsterowners.com/" part of the link, then past it after the same thing in the address bar at the top of the page. You won't have to log in again, and you'll be able to see what everybody is talking about...
c'mon, guys.....this isn't all that complicated if you just realize that Theron has only given limited capabilities to his hyperlinks. Nothing bad about that, as it keeps the "Baddies" out and minimizes his server overhead.

Anyway, go to the rightmost end of the link posted above, and highlight (whatever way you normally highlight anything) from the right end up to "Speedsterowners.com/"

Once it's highlighted, simply copy it to your "Clipboard" or whatever your "PC" copies to. ("crtl C" on a PC, and "apple C" on a MAC)

Now, go up to your browser address window (the window that shows where you are right now) and, starting at the rightmost end, highlight everything to the left until you hit "speedsterowners.com/" and stop before the "/". While it's still highlighted, simply hit "Crtl V" (for PC's only") or "apple V" (for MAC's). Once your URL line has been replaced, simply hit "enter" or "return" and it should take you to the link without screwing around. (if it still screws around, then it's just messin' with your head).

BTW, Jeff: Once you get to that template and print it you'll find that it's full size. Tape it onto your car body where it tells you to and it will locate the needed holes within 1/8 inch.

Just as an aside....I designed and manufactured computers for over 32 years, and I STILL don't trust the damn things!!

Jeff:

Once you get your windshield posts located properly, do a search on here for Windows and see what's already been written. There are a few things that you SHOULD do, and a few that you shouldn't do to install your windshield properly and not crack it in the process. That glass can take quite a beating, but treat it wrongly just once and it'll crack like nothing else, believe me.

If you can't find info on it, contact either me or Alan Merklin (drclock) and we'll coach you along. It's not hard, just eccentric.

Here is a simple cure Get a large peace of cardboad punch the two post holes by measureing from post to post them set the complete assembely including the rubber glass seal on the carboard and trace with a fine pin across the glass inside and out and around the post.
Now you have a nice template you can cut out and lay on the coul that will not only help you place the post but will also help you set the aluminum strip tha goes under the windshield. the only missing info you need is the rear post edge from the door crack edge then you can confenently mark your coul for drillngs.

My car is a D now . Any want to sendhim a picture of their coul post with a measurement that is exzact.
Jeff, mine are in plain view, since I have a smaller, plexi windshield. When I get home next (might be a day or two), I'll get a center-to-center for you.
My car is virtually identical to Alan's in that respect ('84 CMC). You could compare numbers.
lindisfarne793 AT hotmail.com with your contact info; I'll call you when I have them.

Dont forget to duct tape the rubber to the bottom of the glass when you set it in the frame.

Oh what the heck. tape it all so it wont fall apart with you set it on the car. I'd rather waste ductape than a wind sheild.

Your going to need to mark the coul for the front aluminum strip that fits under the rubber across the bottom of the glass.

To me that was the hardest part to get right . Use only 4 screws first intil it all sets down right together.

then you can move front strip if need be a time or to. be fore you finaly drill for the rivits. and fill the screw holes. you will paint the car before you mount the aluminun strip

If you do it the porsche way. Thats up to you
