What am i diong wrong? Installed my second windshield this past weekend(first one smashed due to dumbness)After i installed the wind sheid there was a gap near both post and i can remove the rubber trim off the bottom of glass for about 70% of the trim. It is not tight at all. Is the glass from the original CMC different from what Kirk at Vintage sells? Should i put something in the frame to lower the glass on to the trim?

I had the same problem after my original CMC windshield broke. There are two ways you can go about the fix. JPS sells a larger lower windshield seal . It may take up the space needed. Or If your car is not painted you are one step ahead of the fix. The windshield mounting area on the CMC is a bit lower at the center. The fix is building up the center area with fiberglass cloth. Put the windshield together completely . Then test fit it on the car. Mark off the gap area that needs to be built up. I recommend using 6-10 oz e-glass cloth along with a vinyl ester resin . Vinyl ester resins have less shrinkage. Orthophalic resins would be the next selection if vinyl ester is not available. Rough up the work area with 60 grit paper be installing the cloth. You will be covering a large area to keep the cowling shape uniform. Use a resin roll to eliminate any air bubbles. Air bubbles will haunt you later once the car has been painted. Use a marine filler material to finish off. Be careful when mounting the glass into the frame. No metal i.e. center post ,rivets, screws can touch the glass. That 's what causes it to break. I know from experience. Just take your time. Post some pictures if you could.
Good Luck

Another alternative is to have the windshield made to the appropariate size. On my CMC there was a significant gap on either end. I covered the lower part of the windshield with masking tape, placed it on the car where it was supposed to go, and at the proper angle, then used my sons 4th grade compass to trace the outline of the body to the windshield. In my case I adjusted the compass so it just touched the outter lines of the windshield and ended up making ing about a 1" section to remove in the center.
The first 3 glass places wouldn't touch the complex cut, saying that they couldn't gaurentee that it wouldn't crack. The 4th place said "no problem" and had it back for me in a day for about $50.00. I believe they ground the glass, but I am not sure. Either way it fit like a glove.
