Motor is secured in place by the two large nuts over the wiper shafts on the cowl. Check ground connection first, then direct 12v to switch and out the other side of the switch, then check 12v at the motor low & high speed terminals to confirm motor status.
And also check to make sure the wiper motor/assembly is grounded to something. Grounds on VW's were always brown wire, but no idea what you might have.
Jerry...tell us how old your car is and who built it. It may give a clue to what wiper system you have up in there. If you are a 120 lb gymnast with good eyesight, patience and some dexterity, you've got a good head start.
I did a re and re a couple of months ago and it actually was not as bad as I thought although I had the driver's seat out and the shifter removed at the time.
You might find it's just a simple connector that has let go but you'll have to get your eyes and hands up in there with good lighting to see what's gone adrift.
I noticed my wipers move when they want when turned on- almost like the post on the arm is slipping or stripped. I'm not even sure how much wiping they'd do anyways as there is very little pressure on the windshield with the blades, one just floats over it really..
To the other comments on ground wires...that seems to be a fix for many of my gremlins.

This stuff puts Rain X to shame. Takes about a year to wear off too.
Not sure why more people do not know about it.

Some year VWs do have splines that dig into the soft wiper arms when the nut is tightened. Running them on a dry windshield will quickly wipe away the splines. Early VW arms has a set screw that could be tightened. Sounds like time for new arms and checking of the wiper shafts. Arms do have springs to keep blades taunt to windshield - don't think there is adjustment for weak springs.
Another trick is to stick your camera phone up there, snap a few pictures, and see what's going on without trying to become a contortionist
Speaking of wipers, could somebody please tell me how and where I locate the hose connection to my demisters under my dash in order to obtain heating or assist in defogging my windscreen. Thank you very much! My heater vents near the floor works well otherwise so is therefore connected to the stock heating system.... I hope my question makes sense.
My car is an Intermeccanica by the way!

Have you looked under the dash? Should be pretty obvious...

Thanks Bill let's hope he doesn't go all joufuu on us.
I have and all I see is the hole leading up to the windscreen from under the dash
I'd ask more questions like, is it an older pan based IM or a newer tubular chassis? Or some other similar questions. None of that would matter as I don't how IM builds their cars. It might be best to call Henry at IM and get the straight dope about it from him.

Look in the area under the windshield posts. You might see it in the frame work, 2' (I think) round pipe. If you can't find anything resembling that, I'll take a picture in the morning (unless Wolfgang see's this and beats be to It).
Thanks everyone. I'm actually from Australia and yes, it's an old one built in the 70's. Still such an amazing car in terms of build quality...
